I would hate to waste one of these rare carts, but would the pink one work as well?

The pink one would work, but not as well due to slightly lower voltage battery typeset. What you could do if you really wanted to, is to get the pink one and soak it in some 50/50 bleach/water solution (in a sunny area so it oxidizes correctly) and it will turn a nice matte white.

Don't mind saskrotch, he's a meany-weany.

Perhaps try using a cart that used a battery beforehand like this dude above me suggested. Not all carts and shells are the same!

100% sure the white tamagochi cart will work.

It will work, but only if you use a white cartridge (like the tamagochi ones). Something to do with them having a similar battery so the cart is a little thicker. You can get one on Ebay for around $15 bucks.

spent all day sunday trying this tutorial to absolutely no avail whatsoever.

Thanks for that Nitro, I always wondered what the deal with that was. I can see banning the spammers, but removing the topic completely seems like censoring out information that they want hidden.

Anyways, I'm out of here for about two years so hopefully when I get back we'll have an EverGB!

If you just look at the carts, you're absolutely right. But there's a bunch of other circumstances speaking for Jose's disadvantage. And you could argue that you should have higher expectations of the owner of 8bc than on some guy in the middle of nowhere in China. And also, Smartboy only ever produced small quantities of cartridges and they fucked up their distribution, so that problem sort of solved itself.

Thanks for that Nitro I was hoping you'd chime in. Also, it seems like Jose took credit for creating the bleepbloop carts completely. The smartboy guys just don't give proper credit. But maybe that's just my impression.

Do you know what the deal with Jose nuking everything about the smartboy carts is all about? Is it just because he didn't want anyone to find out he stole the design?

This is what we need. I'm glad someone is stepping things up like the guys with the bootstrap nes cart are doing.

AFAIK aren't Smartboy Carts the same design by the Polish IT students?  Doesn't that make them just a morally unacceptable?  That is if you prefer them over bleep bloop just because smart boy has no Jose.  Just saying you can't hate on bleep bloop and not hate on smart boy.

...are they? How could they be, bleepbloop is usb, smartboys are not. Though I think you may be right. Jose nuked everything regarding smartboy carts on 8bc.......so who knows. Stolen design or not, the smartboy is cheaper and comes with a transferrer which is what really makes them stand out.

I have to say that of all of those, the 64M EMS is by FAR the largest piece of shit. I will never again trust it to hold a save because I've lost way too much data because of it. Not to mention it doesn't play nice with OS X. The two banks are just stupid and, most importantly, you never know when it'll just, no explanation, erases all of your data. FUN!

If you can get a hold of a smartboy - go for it - otherwise I would say be prepared to pay a good bit for a reliable cart or potentially lose your saves with a piece of shit.

I've never had any data loss with mine, though I've only had it for about 6 months. What I did though is I bought one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Memory-Gameboy-Or … /ref=pd_12

They're cheap, and brand new, and you can use them for all your games. With one of these and an EMS 64, you're still under the cost of a bleepbloop. One thing to mention is that there is no tab for the power switch in it, so you have to cut the tab off your gameboy or use a color/advance. NBD to me as I have a color. Also, with Kitsch offering the clear power switches in his kit and with the possibility of him offering other colors, I wouldn't worry so much about cutting the tab off.

I don't think the smartboy is the one with the cap problem. Did you mean EMS?

Waiting for some news on those carts (remember infinity cart? don't know if that is still the name)....

I believe the infinity cart became the bleepbloop v2 USB. I could be wrong.

As for waiting for the new cart, I wouldn't count on it.

I have had no problems with getting the roms in bank two on my EMS to work properly. It's great, I just have tetris in there so I can play it when I get bored. There was a list of games that didn't store sram on here a while back, I'd dig it up if I were you. One thing to note though - I could not get LSDJ and other roms to live harmoniously in bank 1. If I tried to flash other roms with it, it just wouldn't show up. Also, Super Mario Land 2 and Gargoyle's Quest will not work in the EMS. I do not know why. They just don't. I think there is one other game that doesn't work either, but I don't remember what it was called.

If you get one, have Nonfinite or Kitsch burn LSDJ onto it for you. You may be able to coax them into burning non sram games as well, but don't count on it.

The smartboy is my personal favorite, although I have never used it. The transferrer alone is worth the money, but as has been said getting them to actually ship you one is tough. I don't think they're as bad as wayfar.net and the midines, but the distance and language barrier could be hard. I think the last batch got caught up in customs too, so consider that. I'd look to see if anyone who already has one is willing to sell it.

What would be super extreme would be to get one of those Japanese Nintendo power flash carts and a transferrer. You would be the hardest of the cores.

One thing that has not been mentioned is that you can use a transferrer to burn games onto an EMS 64. So paying the premium for the smartboy and then having the transferrer opens you up to being able to easily burn games onto an EMS. That's the route I would take.

Bleepbloop is right out. Not only is it stolen, you can't really even buy them and they're overpriced.

As bit shifter said, the EMS USB carts have some crazy bank switching issues. From what I can tell, when you plug it in to your computer to put roms on it, it messes up the bank switcher. Possibly gives the capacitor too much charge? It wears off eventually, but there was a 'break in' period where it just didn't really work at all. So they're great, but just don't really plan on switching the roms out a lot.

Also, one thing about them that hasn't been mentioned is that they can only hold one sav at a time. It also seems that roms in bank one overwrite the bank two savs. I have lsdj in bank one, and if I fire up a bank two rom and save it doesn't delete my lsdj sav, but it loads the sav up into lsdj which can produce some crazy stuff. All I do is reload the song within LSDJ.

I agree with bit shifter, the smartboy carts are probably a better bet, as they come with a transferrer. Good luck getting one from Japan in any form of a timely manner though!

Just put it in a case. You'll need a security bit from kitsch though. As for the sticker, it's not a huge deal. You could print your own very easily.
EDIT: I guess you have to trim down the screw post:
http://www.gameboycarts.com/2009/10/imp … cartridge/

As for the mega memory cart, the problem is that it doesn't have a notch for the dmg power switch to go into. This can be solved by cutting the notch out, or using a gameboy color to backup your saves. It works really well. Keep in mind that this is only for the second version (it's yellow). You can buy one off amazon for under 15 bucks, brand new.

The dick inside me wants to point out that you could probably figure all of this out on your own with minimal thought.

The sad thing about android is that it is so customizable that most people just get caught up in developing custom roms/ui stuff and removing Sense/blur/whatever. The app support is not that great. Dosbox is in a horrible alpha stage, I don't think it runs at all and I don't think it's actively developed.

You'd think that a platform as open for development as Android would get some attention, but I guess most people are just concerned about making money off fart apps. Hopefully with the new changes Google has made the market will start to really mature into something useful. Check out app inventor even if you have no programming experience. It's pretty fun.
