Rochester Chip is a monthly series of events dedicated to promoting artists and groups who use the sound chips of retro computers and video game consoles to create new original music. This exciting and often experimental form of electronic music repurposes devices such as Nintendo Gameboys and Atari 2600s as synthesizers and sequencers to create exciting new compositions in a wide array of genres.

Two years ago, Rochester Chip was just an idea, an idea inspired by the vibrant scenes of larger cities. Why couldn’t Rochester have that too? On November 11th, 2010, we had the first Rochester Chip show and since then we’ve set up 25 monthly events with over 80 different performers.

This December, WITR is helping us celebrate two years of chip music in Rochester with the ROCHESTER CHIP FEST, a day long chip music festival featuring nine bands / performers, three visualists, workshops, and more. This is an event you don't want to miss!

Shipping for a broken system would cost more than a speaker is worth. I'll just buy two psp speakers from hong kong for $2.50.

Thanks for the interest. Since I'm cheap I guess i will have to wait 3-4 weeks.

oh i figured you would just get one from a local store or on craigslist.

tfm music maker too, right?

I am also not willing to buy a broken unit for a speaker.

why not? seems like that would be the cheapest and easiest way to go.

also, googling gameboy color speaker gave me this result -

bryface brought up a fair point. brandon took the criticism well and responded maturely. that should have been the end of the discussion.

okay, who wants to split a hotel room? let's do this.

check out the songs that other people have posted. there's a lot of non chip stuff there.

Good equipment, but i wouldn't play that songs live.
If you play something for a crowd it should be (most of the time) danceable. Also move around a lot and stuff.

i'm at work and can't listen to the song yet but i've gotta disagree with this. people play all sorts of music live, not just dance music.

the thing is

a) i think arduino wouldn't be great for syncing multiple gameboys, unless you can use the 4 way adaptor with it, which i haven't tried.

you have to do additional modification to get the four player to work with the arduinoboy. i just figured it all out recently.

"I guess what I'm really trying to say here is if you dig it, awesome! If not, -shrugs- go elsewhere." <-- THERE IS NO MALICE WHATSOEVER in that statement. Just a straightforward explanation of my thoughts on the matter.

Felt the need to include this little addendum in an attempt to prevent misunderstandings. Not that those ever happen on forums, of course... ;3

totally respect that!
