Bandcamp is totally doing better than breaking even. You know how they've paid artists $30 million dollars as of now?  They take 15% of that in most cases.  That's what, 4.5 million?

Maybe someday smile

megabeep guy just totally vanished into thin air, never to be heard from by anybody again. i had high hopes for what he had in mind but who knows. best way to hear about most of the best chiptune releases is to hit up some of the various irc channels on espernet, #mod_shrine #areciboradio #botb #chipmusic etc.

Yeah, I was kindof sad about Megabeep John.  I think he might have been expecting the site to "take off"

Come hang out on IRC while listening to Arecibo Radio while we jam out the new Danimal Cannon and Zef album: Parallel Processing.  Zef and I should be on the air and chatting online while we all rock out.

We'll talk about the creation process, the artwork symbolism, fun tidbits... it'll be fun!

Listen at http://www.areciboradio.com on Tuesday night 11pm EST

Yes my primary listen time is commutes.  It's not uncommon for a single album to stay in my CD player for almost a week.

I guess this thread is a prime example of different strokes for different folks.

I also don't see how an album can be too long? If I don't feel like listening I just stop, if I want to continue with a short record I'm shit out of luck.

Here's an example for me.  I really like Roboctopus' Victory Lapse, but every time it finishes I get sad that there aren't more tracks.  And since I heard the first song 20 minutes ago, I'm gonna swap it out of my CD player rather than leaving it in there to possibly loop.

I'm not sure about people's attention spans, I have a 70 minute album that I would consider to be very successful.

The reason is because the temptation to release material after you got a couple tunes together is really high, especially after everyone else does it.  I mean look at the 8BC model where you release a track the moment you finish it and get instant feedback on it?

It's tempting.  It requires restraint and patience along with forethought to actually release a full album.

Yeah shout box.  I usually have no incentive to click on a song unless I happen to see a name I recognize, which is difficult because it approaches a wall of text up there.

Meanwhile if I saw that someone said 'oh man this track is sick' in a little shoutbox, I'd probably check it out regardless of who it is.
