the module tracking "scene" hardly revolves around chipmusic.org/8bc so maybe we just don't see new mod/xm artists because we are always hanging out here. these places are both "Gameboy forums" not really helped by a bouncing gameboy as part of the logo or whatever. if i had just discovered modplug tracker with no knowledge of 8-bits chiptune i wouldn't feel much need to sign up to either of them.

also trackers are not particularly retro or cool or nostalgic or any of the aesthetic considerations that can (and much of the time it is these things) lead people into this. unless it reminds you of microsoft excel. so if i had just discovered chiptune i would probably want a gameboy or a famitracker or something like that

the original is by jean michel jarre (not his best xD )

the cover is by oisee i believe

make the lfo and the envelope pointable at anything rather than fixed doing one thing
make the lfo sync to the click track with the step sequencer
midi sync would be nice
and it really needs more than one oscillator

another three and a half minute long "album" in the world can't be a bad thing

nice songs

you already listed some non-tracker options but let's go

nanoloop isn't a tracker
PX TONE isn't a tracker
mario paint isn't a tracker
there's lots of sheet-music arrangey things for old computers that aren't trackers
you could use a sheet-music arrangey thing for a modern computer with a MIDI SYNTH or a MIDI GAMEBOY and that wouldn't be a tracker
you could play a keyboard on a chip sound and that wouldn't be a tracker
you could connect your keyboard to a MIDI GAMEBOY/MIDI C64/ MIDI SPECTRUM/MIDI etc and that wouldn't be tracker
you could sample some chip noises and arrange them in an audio editor and that wouldn't be a tracker
you could combine any of the above and it still wouldn't be a tracker

hrm i'm not really into Hip Hop

so you are making music with gameboys because you like the sound of gameboys but changing the sound of them so they don't sound like gameboys because you don't like the sound of gameboys smile

on a more constructive note a lowpass might probably take out a lot of stuff you do want as well as stuff you don't want unless it is like 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 dB/octave slope.

i would keep doing it in logic unless you are going to PLAY LIVE (probably to audiences who like chip music and are therefore pretty used to the sound of a game boy)

once someone took credit for my song on myspace so i reported them. has anything similar happened to you?

einsturzende neubaten

since version 7 or so they have really been changing the FL studio paradigm to something closer to the other DAWs.... yes it can do midi, yes it can record audio, yes it can use vsts, no it isn't crap. mike oldfield uses it so it's not just for really amateur hip hop instrumentals any more. it would be a fine choice for mixing recorded instruments with chiptunes and etc and at your budget the low price would probably also be appealing.

i am running FL studio and famitracker and renoise and schism tracker and vortex tracker all just fine on this laptop which i got for £400 in 2008 (with no external soundcard). with $1000 of money to spend on a 2011 computer you will get more than enough.

the way i would split up the money $600 pc, $200 audio interface or soundcard with midi on it, $200 microphone (for recording your instruments). of course that is not a PRO SETUP but it is certainly good enough
