Volca Sample is a pretty decent solution, plus not difficult to sync to LSDJ/nanoloop

just play super monkey ball 2 and call it a day

Wait, Amiga music isn't considered chiptune?

Octatrack sending MIDI sync to volca only, no note information.. but that's not important, as the volca sends a sync pulse to the SYNC OUT regardless of whether it's being clocked internally or externally.

I used a cable with a 3.5mm plug on one end and a DMG link cable plug on the other, that I made according to the specifications on the nanoloop site. The volca was set to send 16th note pulses. I'm not sure if it's 5v, but it's definitely enough to drive nanoloop's sync. Nanoloop was set to analog sync slave mode (mode "c").

You should be able to use the ANALOG OUT mode on LSDJ and the SLAVE "c" mode in nanoloop, and it should sync, using a link cable between the two gameboys. Keep in mind that even though it says "analog out" it actually means that it's going through the link port, and not the 3.5mm output. I think you were a little off track earlier in the thread and nobody noticed.

I don't think it'll work in the way you describe though; nanoloop will start as soon as LSDJ does. It's sometimes tricky to get nanoloop to actually stop/start at the beginning of a bar, as its sequencer runs constantly when not in slave mode. In that case I recommend actually having nanoloop as the sync master (with both still using analog sync mode) and then starting LSDJ in time with the next bar in nanoloop. Neither way is ideal, but it's chiptunes after all tongue

I think the best bet (That's affordable) is Korgs Monotron Duo. I have a pair of sync connectors for the Gameboys, a headphone splitter, and plenty of 3.5mm jack cables, do you think that would work?

You'll need something with an analog sync pulse output. The monotron duo doesn't have any form of clocking (not even an LFO like on the original), so unless you just use a square wave with no filter and mod it so it runs super slow, you likely won't get a sync pulse out of it.

on nanoloop mono site is not mentioned nintendo link cable, so i dont know if it works

It works. I played a live set with Octatrack as MIDI master -> volca kick -> nanoloop mono a couple of years ago, using the sync out on the volca to drive mono using the link port.

Wow, that cover art is great, as is the disk concept!

Actually showing up to gigs with people who've never heard chiptune live.

In my experience it's pretty difficult to convince people who haven't had exposure to chiptunes to come along to a show. Often people say things like "I'm not really into chip stuff" because they think that it's all happy blippy video game music.

Yep, no kids, no other things to spend money on really. I replaced a record collecting addiction with a synth addiction. I'm on a rather low salary (I work in publishing, it's notoriously low paying) but still manage to have ~$500/month to spend on whatever.. usually it goes into savings but I sometimes just want something new tongue

Also I sell things often.. but am settling in to a setup of permanent instruments.

I dunno if I use it extensively.. but it is a great synth.

Having said that though, mine died the other day sad just sent it off to Elektron today for repair.

Hey everyone! The second TSR nanoloop compilation is now open for submissions, following on from last year's awesome long form minimalism comp. This time, we're exploring juke/footwork styles. If you're not familiar with the style, give these great mixes by DJ Innes a listen:

https://soundcloud.com/djinnes/sets/dj- … m=facebook

GUIDELINES

A little less strict than last time..

- Any version of Nanoloop is allowed (including multiple copies of same/different versions). This includes the iOS/Android versions; this time, sampling is allowed.
- One additional device is allowed. This can be another gameboy running LSDJ, a Pocket Operator, Volca Sample etc.. but just to keep it fun and challenging, keep it to something small and/or limited. Nanoloop should still be taking care of most of the sound.
- Maximum length of 10 minutes.
- Keep BPM in the 150-170 range, but preferably 160. This may be released as a mixed version as well as unmixed, so it'd be nice to have consistent tempo throughout. Having said that, 96bpm "scuff" will also be accepted.
- NO external effects, with the exception of using EQ/compression. However, please leave your tracks unmastered; this compilation will be mastered externally.
- Editing after recording is permitted.
- Collaborations are permitted and encouraged!

DEADLINE AND SUBMISSIONS

1st December 2018. Get on it!

Please upload lossless files only. Name them with your artist name first, then the track title.

Use this form to submit your track:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1bqYHox … TLvao/edit

Upload your submission to Dropbox, Google Drive (**PLEASE** check your permissions, as there were a couple of submissions last year that I couldn't access), your own hosting, or similar, along with a text file (named exactly the same as your audio file), containing your artist name, track title, and any additional notes including the version(s) of nanoloop used, and external gear (if any).

We're aiming for a January 2019 release.
