Do what you like and call it what you like.

Holy shit, nearly had a heart attack when I saw that thread title.. I thought oliver had finally made a version of nanoloop for DS tongue

Anyway.. the noise channel issue you described has been around for a few versions, I think. I believe the only way to get it to work correctly is to copy and paste a note from another channel, which sounds like what you may be doing unintentionally.

I think that the usage of this forum is pretty much in decline, sadly, but that and eventually your local chip scene dying out don't mean that chiptune is actually dying.

Honestly the main reason I like the chip scene is the social aspect. The regular Melbourne Chip Academy nights are so good because they're a lot more loose than the usual big chip gigs, with a workshop and/or 1-2 performers (and some "show us your WIPs" open mic stuff) but the rest of the night is just a bunch of us drinking and chatting. Most of the time I prefer this to the bigger, more structured shows where I don't get to talk to people as much.

haha definitely! I haven't forgotten about that btw, I've just been super lazy when it comes to music lately.

yeah, i never joined the group because of that vibe. just didn't feel like that right scene for art weirdos like me

lol I consider it an art piece to submit a long/repetitive/minimalist nanoloop composition every year to the chipwin compilation and have it not get chosen. 3 years running now, it's becoming quite a tradition. Might aim for something 1 hour long next year.

buy a real one

For a software solution, I use Brusfri on all of my noisy GBA/Micro recordings. It has a "listen" button that you hold during a section containing just the noise, and will filter those bands out of the rest of the recording, to an adjustable intensity. It works really well, and the recording quality doesn't seem to suffer in any perceptible way.

In terms of hardware, I've found the only way to get good GBA sound is to use a DS Lite, which has by far the best sound, at least for Nanoloop 2. Super clean and bassy with almost no noise. The downside obviously being that it can't be synced to any other devices..

I did this, but it sounded kinda bland, and then I lost steam with LSDJ and moved to nanoloop2 which allows chords.. I've got another cart coming my way though so maybe I'll get into it again.

Most of you probably already know this, but I've had a lot of people ask how to make the sync cable I used in one of my early nanoloop+pocket operator videos. Well here it is!
