I know you said you didn't want to wade through an archive randomly, but I ran into http://amp.dascene.net/home.php and found it kind of interesting. I don't know how I came across it, but Laxity is pretty cool, especially his non-chiptune .xm modules with the vocalizing and guitar samples.

Laxity is some sick shit. If you want more vocal stuff in trackers you oughta check out Hunz. He's done some cool stuff in Renoise as well.

Renoise.

Seconded! Renoise's beatslicer is great.

There is! You can filter by tags and I'm pretty sure there's a filter for filetype (i.e. .nsf, .xm, .sid, etc...).

You might like older releases from Monotonik and inpuj.

What is truly chip? *holds up skull* Is it having lots of basic waveforms? Is it arpeggios? Is it keeping a song's original file below a certain size i.e. below 100kb? Is it videogame music? Is it a dubstep song with a SID pwm sound for a lead? Is it really tiny sounds? Is it only music made with obsolete consoles?

I don't think we'll ever know. There's no real CLEAR boundaries in my eyes/ears.

Usually the way I go about writing music is I come up with a short loop that's usually just a few patterns and maybe like 5 to 20 seconds long. Most of my stuff stays like this haha. I'll usually let it sit around a few days until I forget about it then I'll go back and look at it fresh and occasionally tweak things and add stuff. After a fair amount of tweaking I normally have an idea of how I want to structure the song so then I go about doing that. Then more tweaking etc. and then BOOM wow I've got a finished song now I'm gonna let it sit in a folder for a couple of days/weeks/months/years.

If I'm not diggin the short loop so much after a few days, I usually just scrap it and don't expand it, but sometimes I really like one but I can't think of what I want to do with it! It's sometimes frustrating, but hey, art's a struggle right?

I'm a business major with a focus in IT management because it requires a lot less math requirements than computer science and there's supposed to be a demand for it.

Nah I'm on windows these days. There was a release cursor shortcut, but it was set to a key I didn't have, so I solved that.

Only problem now is changing the resolution. I tried changing the monitor setting to 800x600, but Maxymiser got all fucked up and went to a red screen. It works on the incredibly tiny default resolution but it gets super blurry if I make that bigger.

I've been meaning to try atari stuff for years. Thought i'd give it a shot while i've got some freetime.

options (spanner) -> display -> low resolution -> double size (no stretch)
options (spanner) -> display -> medium resolution -> double height (no stretch)

smile thanks gwEm! that fixed the display problem.

I released a few things under the pseudonym "haunty." (http://haunty.bandcamp.com/) It was just a fun, short thing to do. Anymore I'm just releasing everything I do under arlen. I'm also working with a few friends to start a noise-rock/shoegaze band. Hopefully we'll get something recorded by fall or next winter.

aaaah! I loved your Haunty project, it was straight up awsome. Sad to hear there'll be no more of it. Stoked for your new things though.

smile thank you! i'm excited to hear more Mornings stuff. it's nuts how blown up you've gotten haha.

Well I got it to boot, but now I have a question about Steem.

How the hell do I get my mouse back easily? I keep having to ctrl+alt+del and opening the task manager to get it back. hmm the readme says to use "shift and hit the pause button" but the cursor doesn't reach up there.
