Re: RIP Malcolm McLaren (36 replies, posted in General Discussion)
I don't think he was a genius (unless you fully believe the "talent borrows, genius steals" maxim), and I think he was quite probably a massive prick. But he had an ear for interesting sounds, and combined with his commercial nous it resulted in some music I still enjoy listening to. Not a bad legacy, all told!
(And Duck Rock is still the nuts.)

Why would this happen?
Most of the people in 8BC (and to a great extent, here) weren't around when the Malcolm McLaren controversy happened. They would just do it "playing it by ear", acting after something they heard or think they heard and not knowing what really transpired those days. And it was not regarding an article about the Demoscene!
That's exactly what I meant Believe me, we're on the same page regarding 8bc...! It was just a little joke on the tendency to half-hear a scene controversy and go in all guns blazing, Chinese whispers style.
Anyway, RIP. Was listening to Duck Rock this morning and hugely enjoyed it.

Ugh. I wonder how this forum will respond when timbaland has a weight fall on him.
Would you like us to be more or less lynch-mobby?
If this was 8bc, we'd already be ten pages deep into plans for some fourteen-year olds to hijack his funeral over that article in Weird magazine about the domoscene.

Before people start raking over *THAT* Wired article and declaring him public enemy no 1 again, can I just say that I love his ridiculous 80s hip-hop/classical experiments. Madame Butterfly is a gorgeous work of beauty. RIP.

I'd gladly work on psp midi hardware if said piggy app exists that would support.
And given how sweet your GP2x/MIDI box looks, I'd glady buy one!

And yes, PSP MIDI would be sweet. I'd love to get LGPT playing nicely with my TR707.....

From what I remember, didn't someone (Firestarter? Don't want to put words in peoples' mouths!) on the mailing list reckon that, since PSP has serial output, the hardware wouldn't be radically different to the GP2x MIDI circuit? I've got a vague memory of Marc saying he'd make a MIDI-enabled PSP build so that hardware types could see what they could come up with.
As I said, this is from memory, so it may be rubbish. If so, I apologise.

Topic: Logicbomb / David Sugar (13 replies, posted in General Discussion)
Hello everyone,
Just wondering how many of David Sugar's early Logicbomb tracks are still lurking somewhere on the internet? Obviously I know about the 8BP ep, and I've got the (amazing) Suprnova, but I've got a taste for some more of his epic chip'n'bass tunes and would love to collect some more...
Any pointers, please post below!

I'm terrifyingly excited about the prospect of seeing both Covox and David Sugar ** on the same bill. Looking forward to hearing the date.
** I saw David Sugar doing one of his non-chip shows last year. It was alright, but I kept wishing he'd do the Logicbomb stuff.

I love Sunvox.
As of today, the full version is free (apart from on iPhone) - not that it wasn't good value previously... Would love to see more chippers using this great app.
