These guys pulled it off.

It might be easier to do with a nintendo ds rom and flashcartridge (Any mobiclip video codec substitutes in the nds homebrew scene?).
It depends on the extent of what you want to do, and how much trouble you're willing to go through for it.

Just sharing some LoZ kits I made here. One's on lsdsng.com and one's on mediafire, but direct downloads make it easier for people.

Let's do it then!

I could put it together as a zip and release it that way, or put it up on my bandcamp page; unless one of the netlabels wants to release it for us, which would be best for exposure.

It'd be a free download, but with a link to the nitrotracker page encouraging listeners to donate to that?

Just comment here if you're interested, and if you have any suggestions, such as limiting the number of channels, or sticking to a particular sample pack. I'll set a deadline when we get enough musicians on board.

Aha, I just wanted to check if it had gotten any coding love after being opensourced. It's been a while.

Maybe a compilation to draw attention to it again?

Release thread

Since we heart the open source NDS app nitrotracker and would love to see some development done on it, particularly in the vein of crucial features such as effects, we put together a compilation in order to get people to contribute to the project in whichever way they can. (Not a programmer myself, so it's the most I can do)

----------

Submit songs to me via a private soundcloud link or at my email. (.wav or .xm, please. Preferrably both, but I can render your .xm myself if I have to.)

The album will be released as a compilation album on the deadblip records bandcamp, with each song credited to their respective artist (to keep it simple, make sure your track is licensed creative commons. If unspecified, we'll simply assign a by-nc-sa license to it.

The deadline is July 5th! That'll give me enough time to finish the artwork, and once I receive all the tracks, normalize their volume, put them in order and set up the download package, with .xm files and additional artwork if you guys want to contribute any. Thinking a late july release date. (Maybe we can have a livestream party?)

Thank you. heart

If the entire song were in 3/2, 3/4, 5/8 or whatever your unconventional time signature is, it'd be as simple as counting the steps and putting in an H command where appropriate. (Step $8 of every *other* phrase; step $C of every phrase; or step $A of every phrase, for the signatures I mentioned above.)

But that song is in 4/4, with a weird bassline, if anything. So, in order to have different channels/phrases in different time signatures and still have them meet at the first beat of the phrase that follows, you'd have to go down to your groove screen, calculate the amount of ticks in your 4/4 phrase, divide that by the amount of beats you WOULD have in your new time signature, like, say 3; and then use the D command in a particular phrase to program in the triplet.

Otherwise, you could make a new groove for the entire phrase where you still have the same amount of ticks, but your notes are spaced out differently so that they end up as a triplet. Just remember to come back to your default groove at the beginning of the next 4/4 phrase for that channel.

There are threads about it that explain it better than I do, and with more detailed examples, but one way or another you have to math.

Good luck big_smile

This is a great idea, thanks for implementing it!

+to the deflemask and Neil donations, I'd suggest LGPT development.

You guys tried to argue against the usage of "8bit" and "chiptune" for the more accurate and serious term "chipmusic", but I still see (non-musician) fans out there using "8bit" and "chiptunes" the most, with little to no negative associations.

You guys tried to argue against the usage of "fakebit" but I hadn't really seen any alternative suggestions for """DAWbit""" up until this point and HONESTLY? People out there are still gonna use "fakebit" the most, with little to no negative associations.

Yeah, this distinction is important, it might not seem like it but listeners pay attention to the medium of the music they listen to; guitars probably still clenching on desperately to the title of most used and most recognizable instrument.

ON TOPIC: I really like http://lovethroughcannibalism.bandcamp.com/ and http://oceanpalace.bandcamp.com/ and http://v-road.bandcamp.com and, though much less primordially chip, I like http://starpilot.ca/, http://bearandwalrus.bandcamp.com and http://undyingbloop.bandcamp.com

Seems like some of you might be more familiar with this than I am.

I'm curious, do these composers take a lot of compositional shortcuts besides standard copy and pasting of phrases or do they painstakingly drop in notes "one by one"?

SPLASHSPLASHHHH

(letavetatu)

It's an anagram of "tuta beleta" which is(was?) an inside joke I had with my mom for the longest time because she was going to tell me something once, but ended up getting her tongue tangled and forgot what she was actually going to say.

Xurik is just the handle I use on most of my internet accounts forever. I misspelled it when I was registering.
