did you read the material i linked re:cc licenses? important to remember that it'd be best to ask anyone in general, but you may even have issues should they have used an nc or nd license...
also, if people aren;t responding when you ask if you can do something, that probably means they don't want you to do it and/or your email got caught by their spam filter...

TSS's license looked like this:
Most people that release their music for free use this type of CC license.

That wasn't directed towards you. It was directed towards people that think sharing\distributing is not OK while their copyright license says the opposite.

Wouldn't it be easier to just contact the artists? I think a good deal of musicians would be fine with their music being posted and it would save you time and effort.

Not really. I used to do this on a previous channel and most\a lot of them didn't reply back. I didn't think it would be a problem given the nature of the license and since I don't do this for profit. I also did not modify the songs in any way; the purpose of the each video was the song itself.

From now on I will make sure not to share your music with my friends\acquaintances since it might bother you. /sarcasm

tempsoundsolutions When you mentioned you contacted other artists I had a feeling you made a topic here.

Like I told you, I didn't think uploading the content was a problem (still don't) since CC licenses (most of the time) allow distribution. I also credited the artists, I even posted links to their pages and stuff (when I was able to find them). Your music does seem to be released under a CC license. The album you mentioned linked me (link is at the bottom of the page) to a CC license page from Bandcamp. When you uploaded this album on Bandcamp you chose that particular license (maybe unintentionally).

Having read some of the replies here I decided to delete most of the videos on the channel (it will take a while).

He posted a recording of himself on SoundCloud not too long ago asking people to get his music removed from YouTube because he didn't want to be associated with some of the people there (The Amazing Atheist in particular). He also removed his website (again) and his SoundCloud page says that he "is no more".

yeah, I don't think re-rendering the old ones is necessary.

I'm pretty sure he can cut them in the YouTube video editor. I'm not saying he should, but it is possible.

The intro is cool but it seems out of place for this type of video. Not to mention that you have to sit through it every time you listen to one of the songs uploaded on the channel and that can be a drag if you are watching a bunch of videos in a row. As far as branding goes, I think the visualizer and video layout is enough. If someone is going to rip off your videos they'll probably strip the intro and you'll still be able to tell by the style of the visualizer and layout.

What I'm saying is that you probably shouldn't include stuff that people will find annoying if it isn't really necessary. Look at most successful music channels on YouTube, how many of them use an intro?

The "modern" era of academic music (circa 1900 - present) is basically about breaking the rules of music theory.

I didn't know that. I expected it from really abstract music that doesn't emphasize on melody, but in music that is really melodic I don't find it acceptable if there are too many off key notes. It doesn't sound pleasant.

Edit: I don't think it was intentional.

A beginner chiptune composer sent me his music and I want to help him. I don't know any music theory basically. I compose by ear only and I usually can tell when an instrument is off key, but sometimes I'm not too sure. That's why I want your input. Do any of the following songs contain instruments that are off key (they all sound off key to me):

You don't have to listen to all of them. One or two is enough. If he made a mistake with one of them and didn't notice, that means he can't exactly tell when sounds are off key. I used to have that problem too in the beginning. Nowadays I figure out the key I want to use before I start a song, and that way I won't make any mistakes like that.

I really don't see the point of the intro. Yours is quite short but some people will find it annoying.

Ditch the intro.

91 track chiptune release by Vincenzo / StrayBoom: http://strayboom.bandcamp.com/album/123 … 0000010111

Vincenzo / StrayBoom wrote:

This is the longest chiptune album in the world. Really. It contains 91 music, 12311 seconds of playtime, that means a total 3 hours, 25 minutes and 11 seconds overall. In a row.

Facts:
- I composed these chiptunes between 1998 and 2010.
- They are all created using 'tracker' software like ProTracker, ImpulseTracker, FastTracker and custom editors.
- Source files (.mod .xm .it) are smaller than 100kbytes.
- Some of the instruments are hand-drawn waveforms.
- Tunes were composed on Amiga, C64, 386DX40, P200MMX and DualCore Intel.
- Converting ImpulseTracker .it files to ProTracker .mod format is... well, don't try it at home kids!

Have fun!

You can download it for free or donate something if you want.

Classical music and chiptune. It's like bringing two of the best things together. I did a brief search and I don't think this sort of topic has been done before, but if it has been done moderators can lock it I guess.

One great example, similar to Wendy Carlos:

Are there any composers out there that make classical music covers or original songs with chip sounds? I think I remember some releases, so there must be a few.

For a while I was like "where did you get these weird monitors" haha.

I don't know how much this song qualifies as chiptune, it is not only the best one in the genre but also the best tune ever (in my opinion): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45l3UAsEQs8
