Me and MFU made some music about the sea and different emotions about the sea. It isn't seapunk, I hope. It's more sort of library music and disco and some sadness and improvisation. It is also very lo-fi, we both like old Ariel Pink and John Maus stuff quite a lot.

you dont really say what you want from the course.

do you want to learn how to make/fix/research? do electronics/physics.

do you want to learn how to use a studio and make a bad noise? volunteer at a local music studio/radio station

ive got an a level in music tech and i started a degree in music tech and then quit.
I wanted to learn how to use a studio but it wasnt not really worth it.

it can give you access to some proper studio equipment that you might not be able to afford but with very limited time slots to use it, you can spend half the day setting it up/getting everything to work and then you run out of time or someone comes along and fiddles with everything over night and you have to start again. fustrating.

the only serious synth i have a yamaha cs1x that i have long term borrowed from a friend that never uses it.

it's ok, i just really dislike impenetrable menu driven synths, although its easier to use than the fucking microkorg.

my favorates are ones that might be considered toys: yamaha pss-470 and korg monotribe, the yamaha is a simple FM synth with a few bits you can edit and the korg is really wonderful, especially when pulse syncd to the gameboy and using a looping delay pedal or something.

i think i might get the ms20mini when that is out smile

MFU - synths, sea bass, guitars, vocals, pretend pianos, oboes, flutes and accordians
Jellica - synths, Game Boy, guitar and bass
Steve Bradshaw - guitar on Taken by the Sea
Neil Baldwin - Game Boy on My Soulfish

Care to shed any more light on the processes used to make this album??

this is what he emailed me:

There's no LSDJ in these tracks, as the DMG in my setup has been replace with a Casio SK-5. All the casio-samples I have used originates from Nanoloop 2.3, though; so I would still consider it chipmusic. All the musical sounds thus comes from Nanoloop 2.3, with the last track as an exception, which features guitar.

Hey, we have a new release! New Biographs as well!

I guess this release falls somewhere between Burial and Boards of Canada but using Nanoloop 2.3 as a sound source.

More beautiful mellow atmospheres. I don’t really know what else to say really. I hope this has sold it to you.

i dont think you can really compare it to goattracker.

if it has a random wave generator and 4 oscilators i doubt you can play it on a c64, it sounds like it just tries to emulate a similar sound.

if you want a proper c64 thing then just use a c64 tracker in an emulator or goattracker or goattracker stereo (which gives you 2 filters and 6 channels)
