so my bud alex lane here played the open mic at square sounds melbourne and was really good. now he's got an EP of LSDJ tunes out and it's generally fantastic!

it's packed full of sweet grooves, low-slung rhythms and unique melodic flair.

so yeah, go download it and stuff

oh and idk if i like auburnkitsune anymore tongue

whenever i see artist names that are japanese words prefixed with english words, it makes the artist seem like a bit of a basement dwelling weeaboo.
but that's just me.

oh, i hope nobody thinks bad things about me because of my artist name now! :v

imagine if we just had a moratorium on all threads that weren't cool enough for us hip and happening forum wizards

it'd be fucking boring

i make ridiculous midi files in fl studio, the last one i made actually plays back properly with the default microsoft synthesizer so i was considering trying to recreate the feat. basically what i'm asking is, does it actually matter what the midi files are made with as long as it fits within GM specifications?

fwiw, since andrew kilpatrick is helping curate the compilation now i expect a pretty dramatic increase in quality compared to the first
imo at least. i usually agree with his opinions!

anyway yeah, a lot of song does just sound like generic LSDJ to me. i think it's the basic sound design letting it down; there's a lot of empty space in the arrangement and it's all centered so the mix has a lot of empty space as well. there are some really cool and unique sections though, 1:49-2:12 is actually amazing imo, you could definitely write whole songs like that and they would be really gorgeous like falling for a square but faster haha.

same.

can't speak for andrew, but if it was me doing this i wouldn't have bothered reviewing your releases at all if they weren't at least good

basically don't get down on yourselves, is what i'm saying. it is just a review after all, if you believe in what you're doing then it doesn't matter heaps in the end. take the bad with the good and keep the criticism in mind for your next efforts. peaaace!
