Wizwars wrote:My post was more about relationships between established members of the scene than how newbies are treated...that's an entirely different area. I can say that when I was a newbie, I had nothing but positive experiences when meeting people who were "famous" within the scene. Everyone was super friendly, positive, and generally awesome to talk to.
yo, this (among other things) is what made blip oz the best thing ever and i hope to have mad chatz with everyone who comes to square sounds & the pre-party/open mic next week!
yeah, i've had really good results pulling ~9.25K right out with a really steep notch filter/parametric EQ. eliminates the high-pitched squeal without sacrificing any noticeable treble clarity
it's probably not exactly 9250Hz, but at that end of the spectrum you have a bit of numerical leeway
me too! bashing out some new material for my set over the next few days (lost nearly all of the songs off of my last ep to a hard drive failure last year)
this is a couple steps above a backlight & bad spray job though (just a couple! )
tbh i couldn't care less if he makes music or not, seeing what really adept modders can do gives me a semi-on, ya dig?
this is cool! reminds me of early bad brains & kennedy's, i'd love to hear some slack jawed vocals on this
def needs more polish thoudh, i wouldn't have put these recordings on the internet either haha
Can we add recommendations?

Live/Small Studio: Yamaha MG82CX
Price - 150-200USD new
Inputs - 4 mono (XLR or 1/4" TRS) 1 stereo (RCA or 1/4" TRS), or 2 mono (XLR) 3 stereo (RCA & TRS)
The input combinations can be really flexible. All the channels with XLR inputs have a 80Hz HPF switch and 3-band eq, the first two have a nice channel compressor.
Built-in multi effects with a good range of reverb effects in particular (these are actually quite good). Quite a light unit (1.7kg) too. Only has split-stereo TRS and headphone outputs though. There's a USB version of the same mixer (Yamaha MW8CX) for about $100 more, worth it if you're doing a lot of recording but both are equally capable in live situations.
Downstate wrote:The old dirty south / crunk beats have been knocking out for years, hence the old TI record called 'trap music volume one' from years ago...... its bong smoking hustler music out of atlanta. But now its turned into 'dance music' as opposed to a hip hop beat someone would mc over. I dont mind that. I dj it. Well the 5% of it that isnt utter shit....... it has of course evolved as you said things do. ==
feelin this, always had a soft spot for the dirty south style but i don't really like many of the more modern beats without any room for an MC
if i make a beat like that i usually fill it out with a filtered vocal sample or something cause i can't rap for shit haha (australian accent is literally the worst for rapping with)
BUT i thought the hardstyle bootlegs that flosstradamus did were funny and they kinda go off at parties
haven't heard any "trapstep" shit at clubs yet so that's a plus!
ANYWAY this boss wave tune is kinda cool but i was hoping for something more like moe moe kyunstep from the title
nerd-friendly producers like the monstercat guys are always doing this sorta shit. but i gotta rep my man savant cause he's actually taken an interest in actual chipmusic between his more produced stuff (which is often laden with VGM style riffs and melodies anyway)
so deft! i'm imagining straplocks for cz101-style keytar shenanigans. this keyboard is going to sync with LSDJ, yeah?

Midnight Oil
Icehouse
Split Enz
INXS
Hoodoo Gurus
i'm disappointed by this list's lack of psuedo echo and the church! :<
Monotron wrote:Victory Road wrote:yo, squarewave beeps and PWM leads aren't "chip samples"
I mean the specific using of plain square waves which is similar to what makes chipmusic sound the way it does.
hmm, in the song you posted i think '"drum beat" from a casio pt-1' rather than 'omg chiptunes'
i'm not saying that chippy sounds aren't starting to appear in pop music more often (they are, duh), but the sound deisgn in fashion monster isn't informed by chip music at all imo
the thing about those two albums is that you always come crawling back
:v
defPREMIUM wrote:Victory Road wrote:yo, squarewave beeps and PWM leads aren't "chip samples"
? if you know what he meant in this context why is this important..
because these kinds of sounds were used in a lot of popular music and culture before the most ubiquitous sound chips existed
thus i don't think that these sounds are at all indicative of chiptune influence
especially not in this song, which is produced as fuck in just about every other aspect
yo, squarewave beeps and PWM leads aren't "chip samples"
old thread, but i got a yamaha mw8cx recently to replace my old tascam interface. it's a mint little 8-channel usb mixer
has pretty a solid multi-fx built in, channel compressors for 1 & 2, works great live and you can record stuff onto the computer with it. it's real neat!
Yeah these guys were awesome at blip oz and the game thing worked really well. The full ep is being launched on March 2 iirc
Hunz is a bit of a legend, will be cool to see him solo at square sounds!
