I don't know... I am still kinda new to the scene (started looking at chiptune stuff a year ago), but I get fairly annoyed by people who make chiptunes to be cool. It is an art medium through which you can express emotion which you otherwise would not be able to communicate to someone else properly. The cool chippy sound that has defined the genre merely helps many people recapture some of their childhood and lets them drift off into nostalgic fantasies. I guess what I am saying is that, if you truly love and understand chiptunes, then you should at least feel that there is something more to it than just simple bleeps and bloops...

this makes me just want to mash my keyboard and see what comes out, out of sheer laziness.

I recommend using a banana to do that... stunning results! #1 chart topper!

might wanna fix the link there, just for posterity's sake.

@vellain: the vst's called "toad", by tweakbench. it's really starting to show its age!

that's right... I also found "peach" and "triforce" in my archive of files...

hrrrmmmm.... wait a sec... that first song... I think I have the VSTi you used floating around somewhere... (does sound just a tad gimmicky...) I really suggest going in a totally different direction.... I feel like you could be really good at acid jazzzzzzzzzz, but just to be safe, you should also add in some scat vocals to accompany that jazzzzzzzzzz....

Has anyone accused "fakebit" artists of cheating yet?

I guess "fakebit" could be considered "cheating" but I don't believe it to be so. Some people just don't have the cash or the ability to buy some of the original hardware, so the next best thing would be to emulate the sounds... They at least have some reverence for the classic sounds and may utilize them in new and unexpected ways which may help enlighten the community about the possibilities of these new and unexpected stuffs...

ok, here is what I want to know... where do the Spotts go after they make these posts? Spotts, were all hassling you because every few weeks someone comes in and makes a thousand random n00b. Were just messing with you because that's how it works. But really... I don't think I've ever seen one of these peeps come back and actually ever do something useful. MAYBE a MY FIRST LSDJesque track or a small MS paint album art ep release, then nothing.

where do they go??

idk... maybe they end up on one of the dying websites like 8bc and just never resurface...

I always find that the ones that do stick around tend to be the one who are more involved and go to shows as well as possibly performing in them (people who are active in the local community), as opposed to the ones that think it would make them look cool to be a musician...

dude... I know just how you feel... I understand how to use DAWs and a lot of other trackers...but I have a lot of trouble with LSDJ just trying to get the exact tone... it gets even worse because I will then go back and decide I don't like the way it sounds shortly before wiping the chains and patterns...

Nope, that's pretty much what you're supposed to do. What are you using the mixer for though? EQ I guess? Nothing the computer can't handle, why not just plug the DMG straight into the laptop?

I use the mixer with a lot of my other stuff... I have Casio CTK-573 which I use a MIDI controller for a VST plugin on my laptop. I also have a Korg Monotron and an Ibanez RG3EXFM1 guitar (the guitar I only sometimes plug in to my mixer... I usually just use a lot of the effect on my amp{Peavey Vypyr})... oh, almost forgot my PSP... I may also plug that in while it is running some sort of emulator...

hmmm... (DMG coming soon in the mail)... do you think I would have any problems if I had a setup like this:
                                       [1/4 Mono]________-----------------------------------
{DMG}[Stereo 1/8]-------{________________|  [Behringer Xenyx 802    |[Stereo1/4]--------------[Stereo 1/8]{Laptop}
                                       [1/4 Mono]                -----------------------------------

complete BS... I went to the site and you had to be a registered user and have an iLok.com account. I went to see what the iLok.com thing was and apparently it is a way that the website secures its product licenses. You have to have bought the special USB drive already to be able to get the "free" plug-in...

Classic NEO-GEO is the best... To quote Keith Apicary, "Neo-Geo, Neo-Geo, four bright buttons and two joysticks... Neo-Geo, Neo-Geo, cool red cab and a name that sticks"... This is neither red nor does it have two joysticks and four bright buttons... This is not the Neo-Geo we all love...
