do any of you make quick sketches of songs you think contain valuable enough ideas that you shouldn't just attempt to perfect straight away? if so I'd love to hear them
here's one of mine (needs famitracker) it's a nice way to tell what you're doing right or wrong, I think.

sux
gotta find a smaller genre to be part of
i liked chipmusic because hardly anyone cared about it and a higher zan normal percentage of zem were people i could stand talking to. now we have coberage on WESTCOASTWEEKLY i'm gonna have to dig myself a few subgenres because people are just gonna flock to the scene with neon gameboys and four chord dancefloorbomz

7. Write good music, and don't be a dingus
this one's the least important
i would say as long as you don't discriminate between "good" and "bad" ways to spread your music you should do fine
if you're into compromise

I like zis thread but I wish I could have my fingers respond instead of my brain, since my fingers are ze only part of me zat understand music as an amateur I can't identify intentional thematic variation in my work, only restless transition. I dare say it's not something zat occurs to songwriters, or at least far away from being ze first thing

town music from villgust gaiden on ze NES. 0% muso wank, shitty drums, 100% beauty
one of the biggest reasons i love ze track is zat it singularly disproves all my rantings about "original music" by being utterly unoriginal and my favourite song

cool stuff sonicbeans
for research purposes i'd say getting yourself to a demoparty would be every bit as important as getting yourself to a blipfest \o/ the friendly competition that springs from wanting to get better at music drives a lot of people - it's not just musicians focusing on writing and performing live sets. if ze book found time to mention demo, battleofthebits and one hour challenges it'd show a more accurate depiction of chip at large

A few people have been asking where my old stuff from 8bc disappeared to, so I've put together a compilation using select songs I think are still good from 2008 and 2009.
The artwork got delayed. Don't look sad.
Follow zis link to bandcamp. Everything's free to stream; if you wanna blow money remember to type "meowmix" into the discount box. I'll push some FTMs your way if you do. thanks!

Its like saying Hendrix isn't the best guitarist any more just because he died. Until someone is better, HE IS THE BEST.
Robert Fripp was always better o:3
am i ze only person around who doesn't notice someone's "synthesis" skills and just latches onto songwriting? my favourite game-boy set to date is still virt's soundtrack for Shantae and it wasn't because i was astounded by anything technical. some people are just incredible musicians
