Ok, I've broken a pin when trying to swap it, so:

I thought about vcc through USB. Will then the ground on the DMG have to be connected to the ground of the keyboard and the ground of the USB?

Couldn't you just try the pin swap again with the other half of the spliced DMG04 cable rather then bringing a usb in the mix?

Figured it out, I had accidentally traced back the ground lead instead of the speaker switching mechanism lead.

I’ve successfully transplanted a SGB CPU into my DMG.
Everything seems to be working fine only hang up is that there is no audio coming from the speaker.
I was wondering if this might have something to do with SGB CPU lacking speaker capabilities?

Just spitballin a few ideas here:
Try connecting to separate 5volt source
Make sure the ltc is connected to legs 2&3 of the potentiometer
Connect both to the same clock point?/ Connect the clock out of the easy to the ltc then to the clock?

Are you trying to run them simultaneously?
This would probably cause the screen to go blank because its trying to interpret 2 different clock signals.
Does the ltc work when the easy clock is at normal speed?

Vinyl paint is great. It bonds with the plastic, and dries nice and flat if you do light coats. You can find it at Autozone.

I highly recommend this over spray paint.

Fixed: As time goes on, there is an ever growing supply of broken gameboys and salvaging parts from broken gameboys to make fully functional devices can't hurt.

if i can source parts like the ZIF connector for the pocket screen, DMG ribbon cable and the LCD voltage regulator.

ebay + search term "Gameboy broken"

As for the ZIF connector

you wouldn't like the idea of some kid doing brain surgery based on a tutorial on the internet?!

No, but I'd rather have him do it, then someone who didn't look at a tutorial big_smile

The whole shebang, it will be able to close

I hate to rain on your parade but... what's the point of this?

The pocket screen is a better candidate for a screen since its pixel color is truer to shades of black instead of being blueish like that of a normal DMG. Also it revives any front pcb with horizontal lines by replacing screen entirely big_smile. Plus its just another thing to add to the list of documented gameboy modifications.

scan and share your notes and your effort will live on forever! those other dudes dont want to share... I have no problem hosting the info on my site and giving you full credit

Well, utlramega the whole reason I got REALLY into this project is so that I could share it.
PM me I can send you scans of my original notes 3 pages long if your interested.

I like the idea of hosting my information on other sites, its always good to have mirrored copies of this kinda stuff.
For now though, I recreated the gist of the notes into two separate photos.
Only thing that's not included here is the diagram I made of the wiring inside the cable that gets connected to the pocket display connector.

(Also worth noting: While collecting voltage information, both the DMG and MGB were connected to an outlet so there was a steady source of power unlike batteries sometimes.)

Obligatory: This is just my own personal information I'm deciding to share with you, I'm not responsible if you end up breaking something while attempting to wire up this pin out.

Good luck everyone, have fun!

So, would I be right in presuming that I'd be the third person to successfully build/own one of these mods?
As far as I know it goes:
1. Nex
2. 12ianma

BEAUTIFUL pieces of art.
Just for the sake of curiosity, did you spray painted everything with vinyl dye? The START, SELECT buttons too?

Vinyle dye is a bit different then spray paint (It comes in spray paint can form though). It soaks into the plastic instead of just putting a coat over the material, there for making it superior in standing up to wear and scratches. I applied it to the buttons power switch and link cover they must be of a different type of plastic as they didn't take the dye, so only the case and back battery cover are dyed. I used kitsch's start select buttons in the white one and followed this guide for the black one: http://chipmusic.org/forums/topic/8581/ … t-buttons/

Interesting, video would help diagnosis.
