OMG just mic the speaker lol

But a transducer would be so much more convenient in terms of placement and freedom of movement and louder volume, and you could add some extra percussion to your song by tapping on the gameboy's case big_smile

I'm definitely trying this the next time I replace my broken acoustic pickup.

I might end up keeping my DMG stock if it produces stronger bass, at least for awhile. First have to get the speaker/volume problems sorted out (With headphones, the right channel doesn't ouput unless the volume is turned almost all the way up. Without headphones, the speaker output is very low, and, even at lowest volume, still outputs sound).

it sounded better with the resonance coming out of the case speaker but then that doesn't really help you.

Wow, that Waveform generator looks cool. All that stuff looks cool. This website looks so old.

Anvil Studio has a pretty cool graphical wave generator that lets you modify the shape, volume over time, and pitch over time. Great for making sound effects, drums, etc. I know that such things can be achieved through trackers and the like, but the paint-based format is really fun. I wish there was a standalone tool exactly like that for Linux, though...

But really though, I have no idea what I was making in the first place. Perhaps an artist name might bring me closer to actually releasing something.

FDUUUUDE, I checked out your old stuff.. wuuughh "Ode to @Horse_ebooks (WIP)" it's so good, man. SOoo GOOD. yikes

I'd go bump your CC thread but I suppose that wouldn't do much good at this point. Anyway, welcome to your new identity. I hope you don't totally abandon your old style.

Posted this at a possibly bad time, so I'd like to give it a second chance at least 15 seconds of fame.

› Actual spoiler that you probably shouldn't read until after you've already appreciated the album

Also, updated OP with a better description.

Steerike, you're oot.

I'd heard that this was a very educational track. Nonfinite recently uploaded it here after somebody mentioned how much they'd learned from it in that "Do LSDJ carts come with songs?" thread.

My LSDJ skills are increasing just listening to this. Just imagine how much I'd learn with the sav... yikes

Nice to see it on youtube, too.

32m - 64m EMS Smart Cart = $30-$40

Now factor in all the heartache, headache, blood, sweat, tears, lost songs, driver installation, battery replacement, and flasher building(in the case of the 32m) that goes along with the owning one of those carts.

I'd say it comes out to an additional $40. Now add in R&D, testing, and overhead, $10 more bucks is about right. Plus $10 more for sheer awesomeness and cool factor.

I'd say it's fair.

But... I probably won't be getting one any time soon, unless it's given as a gift or won in a giveaway. 10 years from now when the price has slashed to make way for the new 32t mega NES/GB/SNES/GBA/3DS/Game and Watch/VirtualBoy Slag 'n Slerp cart that's all the rage with the kids of the future, that's when I'll get one. neutral

I enjoy different aspects of all the various interface styles I've used. The sheet music interface of Anvil Studio/Rosegarden, etc.(favorite), the piano roll of Sound Club/FL Studio/LMMS, the freedom of expression and organic-yet-sterile nature of LSDJ and other trackers (least favorite, tbh), live recording with various live instruments(favorite favorite), trying to synthesize said instruments, the aforementioned "ukulele-to-tracker" method, the organic and liberating style of Sony Acid loop-based stuff, etc.

One thing I really need to get is a midi controller/keyboard, because ever since I switched from recording on my little Yamaha keyboard to doing PC based composition, I've always missed the spontaneous human element that live recording offers.

What's the track order?

kitsch wrote:

LSDJ needs to be alone by itself in the menu it is in.

so if you're putting it in both menus (pretty common, this way it doesn't matter how it loads really), you'll have two LSDJ ROMs on the entire cart, one in each menu.

and nothing else.  generally, the EMS menu will appear and either be missing LSDJ from the list, or have LSDJ but none of the others.

Can you have two of the same versions of lsdj a cart? I've noticed people tend to put the latest stable on one page, unstable on the other. Is that just personal preference? And do they two pages share the SRAM nicely, or is there danger that one version of LSDJ will mess up the SRAM data of another?

Goody! I can't be there in person, but I'm looking foward to the live stream. Really looking forward to seeing what Space Town Savior does in a live setting.

I use emulated hardware, because my Gameboy is wonky, I don't have a triwing screwdriver to open it up, and I haven't yet ordered my cart. I'll probably continue to use the emulators, though, for more complex sounds that would freeze up a DMG.

When I make non-chip music, I tend to gravitate towards using the plugins to create chippy sounds.

I say, as long as it sounds good, then it's good. Hardware does have it's own Mojo, but either way is fine. Do what you can with what you have, and get more stuff if you need it. The challenge of trying to emulate hardware sounds with software plugins is in itself an inspiring limitation.

I personally prefer the act of physically handling an instrument over clicking and typing on a computer, though. That's why I use a game controller while emu-LSDJing.
