I have no idea how I missed that in the threads feed.
Hm, I'm sure there is something to be said about the guy with his avatar as an eye and yet he can't see the top thread in the feed.
Anyway, thanks for pointing that out, but I was talking more about a traditional one. Like I think there as a Christmas cover comp last year if I'm not mistaken.

Will definitely think about submitting for that one though, don't know if I could get dark and heavy enough though tongue

there was one last year, I think 3 of us ended up putting a track in.  If you wanna see a compo, organize it big_smile

It's actually about ethics in J Arthur Keenes Journalism?

I think this joke has officially been run into the ground.

Me and an0va are popping mad iBoners over this thing https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dxi-fm- … 38065?mt=8

LOOPY is a super cool live looper. You can even sync it to other devices within iOS. If this had functionality for hardware such as a footswitch and MIDI sync, this would be the single most important device in music for me right now yikes

an0va -_-  It's right on the website.  Core midi implementation. http://loopyapp.com/features/ and there are tons of ios midi interfaces

really don't agree with this sentiment.  my interactions at public events over the past 5 years or so don't either.

i find musicians to be very interested in processes, and non-music people to be very concerned with the music itself.  i think musicians understand its up to them to create the music, but ultimately they need to understand the process.

it might seem people are flippant about the process and don't care because they are discussing it all with you because they appreciate your music rather than for technical help?  i just see the polar opposite end of the spectrum because i am never involved as a musician, so maybe there is equal bias in the way we've understood people's interest in this 'thing' with which we are involved

You've obviously been luckier than I smile

that being said, i do think it's worth giving at least one fuck about the attitude that allows a product like this to be popular and successful. it's no fun when chipmusic is essentially reduced to an ultra-simplistic, gimmicky little device like this. it does a disservice to a lot of our music (yours too!), to suggest that this little device is the method through chipmusic is produced.

Nobody but us gives a fuck about our processes, no matter how many people ask you what your gameboy is doing.  This shitty little boring device in no way does a disservice to any chip musician.

Once again, it's not taking your tools away.  It's gonna be okay, guys, we'll all forget about this in a year when nothing's happened with it at all.

the issue, as stated above is that its representing itself as a musical instrument to make chip music with which is deceptive in a few ways.. we're all sort of bummed for anyone who buys it not knowing any better and annoyed at the people misrepresenting what it is.. if it was sold as a toy, no one would give a fuck

A kickstarter product? Misrepresenting itself?  I never.

How is this a thing to give even one fuck about?  Are you guys seriously insecure enough in your craft that you think this will ever outperform any of you?  This is not for us.

If someone new finds chip through this, whoop-dee-doo.  They get bored of it and write it off, or they wanna go deeper and learn a tracker.  Maybe someone uses it for the one potentially cool song it can make.

I think we're gonna be okay.  This isn't going to take our tools away.

dropping an octave would be QF4, if i remember correctly... 2 would be QE8 ?

QF4 outputs a note but QE8 is silent, in fact all QE range is silent. Is it also normal (once using a table) that the gaps between notes sounds as though the sound is being re-triggered?

Yes because it'll retrigger the q everytime it comes around.  You need to do something like this if you don't want it to re-trig

the H commands makes it so it doesn't loop around.

There's ways to package .NSFs as ROMs isn't there, which would make them playable on the N8? So despite not having direct .NSF playback it could be worked around.. right? Or am I talking bollocks here? Hahah

Apparently the N8 saves how you would expect it to - no Reset stuff! Plus it's cheaper.. So if I still have an option to play .NSFs in some way, I reckon the N8 would probably be the better option!

Oh shit!  Yeah, you're totally right. You can use Famislayer!  Can't believe I forgot about it

I know that NTRQ doesn't do expansion audio at all.

it seems that the n8 doesn't do nsfs, but it uses an sd card, which is a lot easier to deal with that the powepak's compact flash card, although you can just get something like this and you're fine.

This obviously isn't for any of us, do you really care if some nerds get weird boners cause something has a d-pad and makes bloops?

If I'm not mistaken, the standard midi channels are 1-2-3-4 for pu1, pu2, wav, and noi.

Start sends a play command, I don't know anything about your drum machine or c64 stuff at all, but in midiout mode in lsdj, pressing start sends a midi start message, and Aboy documentation can be found here https://code.google.com/p/arduinoboy/
