Dang. I got the bug from this pretty bad, I was going to try to find a soundcard and retrofit one of my actual towers with a Win9X partition as well.
The spec sheet for the laptop says that the card is "Soundblaster Compatible," but as I understand it, that this doesn't actually mean real OLP3 most of the time.

Who is and isn't a hipster is essentially a question of semantics and dogma at the end of the day, but what I've learned is that no one actually wants to talk about that. 
That said, I'm sure there are a lot of people who would tell you I am a hipster. I wouldn't say I am, though.

Ohhh snap.
I just was given a beat to shit PentiumIII laptop the other day, and I repaired it and got AdLib 2.0 and 2.3 running on it in Win98SE.
It's weird, 2.4 won't run on it, and Scream Tracker 3 won't find the sound chip.
I think it has one of those unusual hardware OLP3 emulators in it. The device manager shows one of the components of the sound card as an "FM Device;" apparently the laptop's chipset is an "ESS Maestro-2E," which I've had difficulty finding the specs on.
Anyway, I can get it to play this demo song:
However, the playback on my machine doesn't sound that good. It sounds comparable to the difference between the two SID chip variants.

Nah, you patch your preferred version of LSDj with LSDPatcher and reflash the patched ROM into your cart.
The difference here is that, instead of using a cart flasher program, you drag it and then derp it.

I like the panel-mount ones with the oversize nut, but I would only put them in a kitsch case. I did mine that way with ribbon cable and it's treated me right.
