just saying, those limitations... chip gear is what it is... honestly thought about 5-6 years ago we'd see a shift toward mixing chip with other gear after a few acts got a little bigger, but scene is more homogenous than ever.. too much 4/4 EDM/house/happy hardcore been done with this gear already, and i wasnt big on it even when it was new... and if you use it heavily, you get labeled as chip, which then leads peopls to expect 4/4 edm dance nonsense (at least my experience in the midwest, i get told by chip gigs im not chip, and by other gigs that im too chip)

ill have you know that i exclusively make instrumental hiphop. pity there isnt really a market for instrumental chip-hiphop....

but well, not like my mediocre tracks would get airplay even then.

As long as i'm the only one who takes it seriously around germany and all the other dudes are active like freaking turtles in the wintertime, it's not gonna happen.

So fck u and ur question.

ich fühle mich angesprochen. deine gang sind legomännchen aus dem hurensöhnebausatz!

im glad to share my (limited) wisdom.

not really, I can use a bass multi effect to boost the things up, and it will be only for rehearsal/home recording for now

I rather find clean/punchy kicks and round bass than loud everything

true, pulse channel instruments sound a lot cleaner and punchier due to attack and decay options. but it just doesnt go low enough for bass IMO; cant boost what isnt there in the first place.

or ...or a pc with reason

you have to synchronize your game boy with your DAW though, since the game boy's midi clock is not steady enough. and you probably will find it pretty hard to start playback in LSDj and Reason at the exact same time. you can use an arduinoboy for synchronization, but i didnt get it to work. which is a shame, since that would have been pretty cool.

also, jellica knows his shit.

if you want it to sound heavy enough for an actual club, there is no alternative to bass on the wav channel. pulse-channel kicks are usually sufficient, but if you want heavier kicks you can let wav kicks fade into the bass. its kind of unwieldy, though, and the kicks dont sound as deep as normal wav-kicks.

only way to get heavy bass on the pulse channels would be to mod your game boy with a different oszillator, which makes everything one octave lower. dont know how well that works, though.

or, use a second game boy so you have two wav channels.

i enjoy bass talk

thats weird, as far as i know bass lines in classical pieces are extra simpel. but maybe thats just orchestra pieces.

pastorius is INSANE. id have gone with some simpler funk lines, because i like things that make you dance... pastorius probably sounds better by itself, though.

what i like most about (synthesis based) trackers is that you easily get a consistent sound. when i use contemporary DAW my lead- and chord instruments often sound really bad and dont fit the rhythm section.

yeah, very often its a "you cant play an instrument? here take the bass its easy" or "worst guitar player gets the bass" kind of thing. playing interesting bass parts is indeed hard, though

But thank you for the feedback, I don't really know much about drumset, but I'll look into it! big_smile Thank you!

you could achieve that with audacity, a widely used free application for audio recording (you probably already used it for recording).

the thing with the hihats really isnt that obvious, and i frequently made that mistake myself. but its definitely useful to learn the lingo. i played bass in a rock band before doing electronic music, so i kind of got a headstart on that.

keep chippin

the sight of left handed guitar playing made me really excited. and it turned out to be everything i hoped it could be.

it works well. every voice is clearly distinguished, its sufficiently fat. by standards of normal bands with drumset etc. the hihat is too loud, but its alright here. if you have the software, you could try putting some equalizer on the bass, but its not necessary.
personally, i like to put all percussion on one channel and everything else on the other one, so i can equalize the drums separately.
