Had I not voted for you it wouldn't have been as close :-P such a good track. Next theme sounds pretty killer too

YES

Yes. Little challenges would be a ton of fun. Something fun should happen during the cool down week when voting happens

It would be a nice idea to work on during the voting weeks.

Just a fantastic theme this week Arlen. The more descriptive the better. More like these please :-D I'll do my part trying to think up some ideas. Perhaps we could involve some of the pixel artists? Have them create a picture from a make believe game and we come up with a tube for it?

Is it really that hard to wire a link cable to a ps2 keyboard? It is a great introduction to soldering and modding. Plus if you want to mod your gameboy later on you can save a few bucks rather than paying someone to do it for you. IMO just useful knowledge to have

I'm curious as to why "fakebit" is not a legitimate term??? I don't use trackers. And why is there a fakebit comp. if this is not a real term? I don't understand what you mean  by it gets thrown around a lot. Its pretty simple, its people who use software to emulate hardware that isn't trackers.

Reread what's said. It is a little confusing but he is saying ignore what people say and write music how you see fit. That's why he includes the vsts and DAWs as the first option. The thread is here to give all possible ways of creating vintage sounding chip music either through modern or earlier software/ hardware.

Great thread! Very informative. However, don't forget C64+MSSIAH, synthcart, and MidiNES for actual hardware.

In previous compos I have entered (non chip related) voters were required to fill out a little form much like 8-bit-Rex had suggested on each track to justify their choice. It may drive people away from voting but in the end you would have a stronger core group that truly assessed each song. Plus everyone would get feed back and realize why their track did well/poor. Just a thought smile

The more the merrier. Should have some time this coming week to work on a song so don't expect another freebie Jredd

Ah, hoping/thought this was going to be a hair metal chiptune comp and we were gonna write cheesy 80s metal songs

The other half of 2PLAYER is borrowing a DMG of mine and my second cart so I wont be able to force the slowboy to run at the proper tempo but i will try to capture some of the audio tomorrow.

That's very likely. I'll probably be heading by an electronics shop today as I am teaching a friend how to mod/solder. I'll pick up some different caps.

What you hear in the mp3 I posted was not altered. Captured as is with my computer and cropped together. I made a mistake in how I described the prosound/bass mod audio. I started that it was compressed when in actuality it was merely clipping. It was late. I was tired. I'll check to make sure my blog accurately captures what happened.

Also going to try to grab the audio from the points before the caps to see if this will give the same results as removing them. Then we can keep the headphone jack and simply rewire a prosound.

I'll grab some more audio tonight and post pics of the .wavs so you can visually see the difference

Sorry fellas, realized my post may have been misconstrued. Referring to it

2. This audio is distorted. You can hear popping on the recording and it sounds like absolute trash
4. This audio clips when recording (loudest parts suppressed so it may all seem like the same volume) There is no popping and the audio sounds clear.

I will post the .wavs for comparison tonight. There is a little added umph in the bass so it may still be of practical use. Just need to keep experimenting
