I was stuck at home almost all weekend. But as far as I'm concerned, sacrificing my attendance at 8static is paying for the start of changes for the best. I am nearly there to becoming a cool scaley for reals.
The Alesis MMT-8 can play MIDI, has a MIDI out, and is medium-sized. It saves songs in SYSEX format, but you can convert MIDI files to the MMT-8 format. See http://www.mmt8.com/ if you want to look into this hardware sequencer.

If you were going on personal preferences: there's a lot of electro-acoustic composers out there. RDJ is a master, but there's heaps of his contemporaries!
