I created that sample thread I linked for a reason. Sure, finding samples is 'easy'. Finding quality samples- not so much. They're often stashed away in huge collections, especially if you're looking for specific stuff.

I see no reason why someone would have to do research/work that has been done before, over and over. One huge benefit of communities is that one can profit from the knowledge and discoveries of other members with similar interests. Free knowledge exchange is what fuels progress.

You can get very good packs at kb6.
I personally enjoy these for their lo-fi sound:
Boss DR-55
C64 (see ant1 & Herr Prof)
Casio SK-1
Casio VL-1 (classic!)
Korg KR-55
NI FM7
Univox MR 12

You can get some great blips from the 808/909 as well.

I can attest to the quality of this product*. I endorse this product* and recommend that you purchase it today. I fully support the manufacturer/author/producer of this product* and his/her mode of conducting business.

Hm, I'm not a gameboy user, but this is interesting. My tracks come out very differently when I work in staff.

I'm also curious about how you plan to utilize the limited controls of the GB. Pointers and d-pads are a pain. sad

not related by birth or marriage, btw

??? - DUB
??? - HOP

Also Linde's Lander and Evil Wezil's Debut. I'm going through my own tracks too to see if I can compile some of them to a small EP or album (I'm in can't-write-shit-mode atm)

You want melody-driven 80's synthpop or less-chip-but-with-chip aesthetics and expect people to find exactly that?

Hmm. Unicorn Dream Attack?

Hmm.. Garrett from the Thief series. Or Billy Blaze aka Commander Keen.

I'd like to have Dhalsim's powers though: I could reach for the remote from wherever, never have to care about empty toilet paper rolls again, yoga-teleport out of tight spots and breathe fire (always a plus).

I'd also very possibly be able to perform auto-fellatio.

I like the olympics because it throws the UK into a hefty debt, allows them to move in the military, mount missile launchers on private homes, arrest people who committed thoughtcrime and sweep the streets clean of homeless and hookers. Finally the UK authorities can be the dicks they always wanted to be.

Awesome!

Ok, I think I can live with the cute hedgehog derail.

Also, I've heard the correct way to cook them is to make a clay shell, roast them in a fire until the shell hardens, then crack them open to get to the meat inside.

Yeah, I want you to stop having fun now and live forever in a gray world of dread.

What I was trying to say was that most of the posts that turn threads into wankfests are made by 'established' members of the board, who won't stop doing it here just because there's another pool to piss in. Else the internet would be a quiet, peaceful place with 4chan as the dickface vortex.

That's over. People who shitwank here would just do it over there as well.

And I'm talking about the 'answers' in this thread, not the question of the OP.

In a possibly futile attempt to bend this discussion back into shape:

The options usually employed to create a build-up (what happens before a 'drop') and the emphasis on the drop itself are somewhat more limited in chippy environments. For example, there often is a limited amount of channels, so you can't just slap on a 20 osc synth hit and have to rely on timbre changes or arps instead. Volume is also often limited and has to be managed accordingly (and in the case of 1 bit just not there at all).

Other stuff still works: Tempo change, feel change, drum break, sample break, pause...

Build up / Resolve isn't THAT easy, imo. As always, practice helps.
