your screen is totally ruined, and currently there are no drop-in replacements available for this sort of fix,

so, your alternative is to get a new console and use the screen from there.

reusing the backlight is OK, as long as there is no damage to the backlight.  Any damage will be more apparent because its illuminated.  scratches, dust, bends, etc....  these things all show up severely because of the illumination.

i would find it hard to imagine the backlight survived without being damaged

i've heard crazy stuff about TED

did they make you do their week-long training retreat before you gave your presentation?  and, did they let you interact with the outside world much during this?

perhaps TEDx and the main TED work differently

there should have been a minidisc included with the cartridge, it contains all the drivers/software you'll need, as well as instructions on installing for your operating system,

if you can't find the disc, or your cd tray won't accept these types of discs, you can grab all the files from the disc from the various links here: http://store.kitsch-bent.com/product/usb-64m-smart-card
