Chipmusic is dead, and we're eating its innards.

My urge to over-analyze gets the better of me again lol

I feel that "2 Le Chip 2 Quit" is a metaphor for the whole chiptune scene in general.

Most of us will get tired of the frustrations of limitations, the stereotyping, the realization that we will always exist within eternal obscurity, the pressure to conform or break out, the longing for yesterday, a sometimes fractious community... I can go on.

But there's something about us that's different.
We'll keep on going down this dusty road to nowhere, with gameboys in hand('cause gb=chiptune amirite), and our heads held high.

But why?

'Cause we're just 2 Le Chip 2 Quit.

+1 to reaper! When I have enough money, I'm totally gonna buy like 10 licenses.

Hey! This sounds like a pretty cool idea to me. I'd try my hand at it, but I'm terrible at finishing tunes... meh.

Well, if I can ever get rid of this [writer's block/production block/whatever], I'd like to give it a shot.

Hey CM.O!  I was just wondering what your (music-related or not) New Year's Resolutions are.

I'm feeling pretty inspired from Psychic Pizza Connection (awesome, and written with my system of choice), so my resolution is to actually finish some songs for 2015. Also, I'm gonna work on all of the coding projects I keep pushing away. I guess my resolution could be simplified into "I'm not gonna let me stop me".

Sweet! Always love new OPL3 stuff!!!

Can I boot DOS alone without booting Windows?

Yeah. You'd have to get ahold of some MS-DOS install disks. You install DOS first, then install Windows 3.1 after if you wished.

My libretto had Win98 on it when I got it, but I found that it was just barely too slow. I never tried rebooting 98 into DOS mode though... it might've worked. Nevertheless, I installed DOS 6.22 off a few floppies, and it works great. Plus, DOS gives you more street cred smile

I have a 50ct, running DOS 6.22 & Win3.1. My advice? DON'T DROP IT!

Lol. I guess that's common sense, but mine fell like 2 feet and suffered severe structural damage. The screen is kinda forced to the left a bit, because some kind of spring-bar inside it broke. I mention this only because I think these units might be considerably more fragile than other computers from this era. Some of the plastic is pretty much disintegrating, either from age or trauma. Maybe mine is just crappy though, so who knows?

That being said, I love these machines. I take it everywhere. DOS FOREVER!!

I got a Compaq Presario 1245 with ESS Audiodrive for $30. Rockin'!

I wish they made laptops like that nowadays... it's SOLID. And has the best laptop speakers I've used.

then I stop and cry because it's all useless shit with no feeling nor creative impulse and go back to the flute sad

I know all too well how that feels.

Using Adlib Tracker II, I create pattern 00. Then I go to the instrument editor and program a kick drum. Then some hihats, snare, bass, lead...

By the time I'm done, I have a huge instrument bank of all sorts of craziness, but I realize that I have no ideas for a song and ragequit lol :')

When it comes to naming tracks, I usually just mash the keyboard, and there's my title.

I see... Well, to echo what others have said, there's nothing wrong with throwing away aliases. Heh, maybe if you have hardcore fans, they'll be able to note the similarities between your projects, anyway. Like people keep trying to find afx/aphex twin/polygon window/power-pill/the tuss(?). But if it is a bad alias, it's good to be able to throw it away, I guess.

I just feel like I'm betraying people if they like my stuff you know, by fully intending to throw away an alias when I start it.

Maybe just let people know you're one and the same, if you feel you must.
