What's so o_0 about that? LOL

This might be a regional attitude as it's been the Midwest way for 10+ years. The faster the better, even if the song is not.

"If it doesn't scroll it doesn't get made."

this is the most retarded thing i've read in a while, that's what. if anything, "insane scrolling" is a pain in the dick. and wtf is "the Midwest way"?! like the Midwest is the epicenter of tracking? lofl, hardcore Midwest reprazent!!

pffftt...

pretty cool, at least as a proof-of-concept (not that you can really do anything with it at this point). interested to see how it'll be in practice.

no, he said "other 8-bit or non 8-bit" as well.

fuck getting all enveloped in 8-bit forever, there's so much other great stuff out there. i would dare to guess that he hasn't heard too much of it either. i would also guess that he might actually be able to use some high quality porn as well. good call.

man, this just keeps getting better and better! the new DPCM functions are exactly what i was hoping for, you'll be able to do some crazy shit with samples now. unfortunately, i've been spending all my time lately with my Nord G2 and just bought another Machinedrum-UW as well. haven't touched NTRQ in almost two months, still haven't even tried loading my own samples into it yet.

custom NTRQ carts seem like even more of a waste of time and money now, especially with the NSF export and being able to load your own samples. for $20-30 it's not so bad, but for $75+ anyone would be crazy not to spend a bit extra for a PowerPak. it's just *so* useful with NTRQ.

dual SID chips and DMG CPU in one box (with four outputs), controlled by a dedicated tracker interface.

yep, that's pretty common knowledge.

you'll notice that i put the word 'synths' in quotes in the thread title, implying that they aren't true/typical synthesizers. as we've seen though, the guy was able to produce sounds/music with these machines beyond what they're generally known to be capable of.

thanks for your input though, if i ever come across anything else that might be of interest to the community i'll be sure to run it by you to see if it qualifies.

lots of stuff of DHR was 8-bit...

not really... i didn't mention Christoph de Babalon or EC8OR/Catani (other than the album above) because they fall more into gabber/hardcore/dnb/etc styles than the more 'bleepy' stuff he was asking about. they both did all their stuff on Amigas though. Empire's 'NTR' album and Catani's "The Horrible Plans..." are the only ones that could really fit that definition. Empire himself never used any 8-bit devices other than that (though he started using the Game Boy a bit more into the 00s), besides maybe a few samples from games and stuff every once in a while. same with his ATR stuff, nothing more than the occasional sample. none of the other bands on the roster used any 8-bit gear at all.

These don't really look like synths to me. They look like knock-off MSX computers.

does the Game Boy look like a synth to you? does the C64?

these examples were done using BASIC programming on each computer, using whatever onboard sound generation capabilities they possess. not the most mind-blowing thing in the world, but pretty cool based on the limitations of each.

well, it's actually half of a Game Boy shoved into a NES cart with a bit of modification, so the sound is exactly the same. he even kept the original headphone output, which is mounted to the side of the cartridge. the sound is also routed through the NES if you do the resistor mod to the console, but i'm not sure how that would sound.

the price sort of kills it though, it's $130 and there's very limited availability for now.

thought you guys might get a kick out of this...

Bunnyboy from RetroZone has just unveiled a new product, it's basically a Super Game Boy for the NES.
