i've been wanting to dust off my super-old .IT tracking skills and this might just be the perfect excuse!  very enticing.

so, the total number of weeks this weekly compo will last may vary depending on the number of entrants?  or is there an upper limit on rounds that you have in mind?

this release is different from what i expected!  trading out supertechnical demostyle progjazz for some more introspective minimalism.  some of those grooves are megasick.

always good to see a seattle show in the works!  can't make it this time but will make a note to swing down there more often in the coming year.

Pleasantly surprised to have sold all of the physical CD's that i had printed for Japan!  That unfortunately means i'm out for the time being, but i'm in the middle of preparing for another run.  Let me know if you want one and i'll factor it into the second run.

also, thanks to andrew kilpatrick for this rad review:

Man, I would just love to see some of the savefiles for these. Tell us your secrets! tongue

undecided as to what i want to do with the source files.  i want to be able to explain some of the technical details but i'm not nearly as interested in just doling out SAV's, and instead making the gaining of insight more interpersonal.  maybe in the form of a video tutorial, or a live streamed Q&A where i just hop around the SAV and spew random thotz.

Very nice.

dude, this comment is a total highlight - i "got into" computer music at the age of 9 because of your .MODs so it's an awesome honour to return the favour somehow.

hey also i had a few CD's printed for square sounds tokyo!  PM me if you guys are interested in buying a physical copy and i'll see what i can do depending on who else picks these up in Japan.  Might help me gauge the overall interest in a larger CD run.

my just-released album (cough cough) has my first lsdj as a bonus track, plus a detailed description of what exactly made it suck:

haha thread turned out better than expected,  welcome, everyone!

if you ask me, i don't think it's a big deal whether or not you write music of your own.  i think as long as you are passionate about new and good music, and have reasonably good taste, and have something interesting to contribute to discussions (even if it's just about your experience listening to chip music and not creating it), there's no reason you wouldn't be welcome.

and who knows, hopefully the outcome involves you guys dabbling a little more and writing some music, which is always a good thing.  i for one started interacting in the community as a chip enthusiast before i started writing chip for real - as have many others.

IT'S FINALLY DONE!

http://bryface.bandcamp.com/album/various-topics

This album of Game Boy tunes aims for a uniquely illustrative approach to chipmusic, resulting in a sound that is lush, nuanced and full of vitality.

"Various Topics" consists of several all-new tracks from me, as well as remastered and/or expanded versions of select previously-released songs.

Each song varies wildly in style and theme, but expect a few elements to be shared in common: chunky, intricate grooves. Meticulous sound design. Lyrical melodies that evoke a decidedly old-school demostyle flair. Stunning washboard abs.

But more importantly, this album hopes to take you beyond the technical details into less tangible emotional territory -- into the peculiar, the saccharine, the oddball, and just maybe, the surprisingly profound.

UPDATE 09/26: LET'S GET PHYSICAL - i have a very limited run of CD's.  PM me if you're interested, and i'll see about arranging the creation of more CD's depending on the overall interest.
