If you share your work you may seek connection with peers and communication, not exactly attention.
Attention is "look at me, look at me, look at me", and noting else!
There are far more options and situations in regards of music sharing than what you describe, which is tremendously narrow!

Being signed to a major label usually means that you produce a pile of steaming shit that masses of people with no taste will eat. It doens't necessarily mean you "worked hard". Depends on what "working hard" is to you.
If money is all you want from music, yeah, this is a success. I find that pretty pitiful.
