just change the melody a bit. add a lead melody. make some variations of beats. listen to songs you like, what do they do ? well i dont know that. but you should. adopt similar ideas. its not rocket science really. many songs hit a 2 minute saturation point when theyre being made. that means its time to decide A)you think its worth being un-lazy and build on what you have. B)you think its ok as a short track.C) probably most likely you realise its not all that, discard and set about making something better. i think most would agree that for every 2 or 3 songs you 'finish', you ll have atleast 15 other ones in a 'wip's' folder on your hard drive that you'll prob never finish.

experiment til you find it. making it yourself will keep the essence of the sound you're after, but it will be a bit different and not a carbon copy of the sound made and used by someone else.
Originality is dying out in electronic music imo because of over googling creative methods.
People want to go on youtube and google for these 'how to make skrillex bass werp in massive vst' and 'how to side chain saw bass to kick" to sound like 8898484 electro house tunes made previously. So uncreative and stupid. (im not saying thats what you do - just emphasising my point that if you put your mind to it you can make a sound of similar nature yourself and will feel more satisfied.)

Re: Full Length Releases In Chiptune (84 replies, posted in General Discussion)
honestly if the musics good, i dont give a shit either way.but id rather a shorter album than an album with a bunch of filler tracks to make it 'a proper full length record'. example - Holy other - With U. 5 songs. Each one a journey in itself. Amazing from start to finish. Holy Other- Held - decent album dont get me wrong but atleast 3 or so of those songs go nowhere, seem a bit void of ideas to me, and imo i wouldve taken as much joy if not more if it was a 5 or 6 track ep.

have you tried running your gameboy through some pedals or in line in on ableton with some reverbs. sometimes this helps.
tbh making a song shouldnt be a struggle. you're approaching it in the wrong frame of mind.
Just have fun make some random shit, if you cant make anything you dont even like yourself maybe you're just a bad musician, or more likely you have too high expectaTIONS of what you can make when starting to write music. Listen to something like Twoism by boards of Canada. The songs on that are very simple really, a pad or two, a head nod beat and thats it. you dont have toi be creating shit with lots of stuff going on. Concentrate on making something simple first, then the more you make you more you start to do other stuff.
like i dont mean that rude or patronising.

some people will moan about anything. jesus. bandcamp is perfectly fine and works well for hosting your own stuff. if you want everything your heart desires from a website that is FREE, you're living in a dream world. Its way better than having to fuck around making your own website if you ask me. and if you disagree then you can fuck around making your own website. Kind of funny that people moan about it but still use it. You cant please some people

one thing ive always wondered is this. does anyone know the maximum total file size you can use in one song file ? i seemed to have problems if i went over around 15-20mb. Or maybe someone knows the file size limit for individual waves you can load in a song. I had a few samples that were a bit lengthy and that would crash my shit. I know i should be trimming these waves down to the smallest duration possible before loading into piggy - but its something ive always wondered about...... sometimes its pretty fun to have a fairly long sample of speech or a long wave of sfx/glitches i've recorded from reaktor.
