December 21, 2002 in NYC, at the Knitting Factory's AlterKnit Theater (basically a tiny black box of a space on the lower level of the Knitting Factory's Leonard St. location), opening for a friend's experimental band called arch ECHO. I'd played shows before in bands but never with a Game Boy, so I was pretty much shitting it. Stood stone-still the whole time in a petrified terror. Somehow in spite of it, the audience (maybe 25 or 30 people) was really receptive & seemed genuinely into it. Sadly, that crutch of the Game-Boy-as-instrument novelty has become a lot less dependable these days. If I could go back & redo the gig, I don't know, I guess I'd have a shot or two of bourbon beforehand. And get a better haircut.

Small helping of exquisitely embarrassing photos & videos here.

Hey thanks guys. I'm glad this stuff is finding a home in welcoming ears, like a larval parasite undulating slowly toward your eardrum.

Hay gaize, looks like it's my turn to join the Blip Festival 2009 live recordings party. As you've probably been seeing lately, WFMU's Free Music Archive is hosting a lot of live recordings from the latest Blip Festival; so far there's material available from 11 of the festival's musical performers, with more being added steadily. My live set went up this afternoon & is freely downloadable, huggable, kissable, etc. -- find it at http://freemusicarchive.org/music/bit_s … t_shifter/

Please to enjoy my songs with full happiness.

is it really that bad that someone who lives in NYC, undoubtedly where the most chipmusic shows happen, who presumably goes to lots of these shows, feels the need to repeat two musicians for this year's award?

I think it seems pretty reasonable that a person who was an excellent performer last year is probably still an excellent performer this year.

@bit_shifter_

I also threw together  a list of chipmusicians, a list of visualists (chipstyle and otherwise), and a vaguely-defined list of the greater chipmusic community (musicians, visualists, bloggers, venues, enthusiasts, supporters, etc.). None of these are comprehensive of course; but I'm just throwing them out there in case they happen to contain that elusive chip-person you've been looking for all your life.

The "Thanks Bit Shifter" line was said in probably one of the most heartwarming voices I have ever heard.

I know! Punctuated by the little accidental hit on a piano key. HUG FUEL. No homo.

Thanks guys. Didn't mean to make this about me. Just meant that hearing my little four-chord ditty being played by a guy with abilities as sophisticated as Shnabubula is pretty humbling. And AWESOME at the same time.
