If it was the battery, youd only lose songs after a power cycle.

Maybe try resetting the memory per the manual?

If that doesnt help clean your gameboy and the cart

You can also mute channels in gbs player https://github.com/mmitch/gbsplay

But dont sample! Make your own sounds! It's easy!
