Its the only option.
encourage you to update the version of LSDJ, there has been tons of cpu improvements since then.
If it was the battery, youd only lose songs after a power cycle.
Maybe try resetting the memory per the manual?
If that doesnt help clean your gameboy and the cart

I dont know if this was asked before but, there is any tutorial or book about LSDJ with instrument setting presets to make for example flute sounds and things like that ? I love touch all options, but dont like spend 3 hours for "find" horse diying instruments.
if you dont want to work, id suggest not doing chiptune
You can also mute channels in gbs player https://github.com/mmitch/gbsplay
But dont sample! Make your own sounds! It's easy!
