Just an update re: the volca running double the speed of NL, if you use the IC mentioned in little-scale's blog post I linked above, you can use it to effectively divide the clock signal into slower pulses (ie. 1/2, 1/4 speed etc.). I have a few of them on order so when they arrive I'll do some testing but I think I got a basic idea of how it works after replicating the IC in a logic simulator program big_smile

this is a great update!

by the way, for the micro cable, check this, might help:

Yeah, I've been looking at that thread. It's still a little hard to understand but I think it'll all fall into place once my DMG cable comes and I can just experiment with pin configurations. I did manage to get my multimeter's probes on to the contacts of the micro plug though, so now I've figured out the colour coding of the OXY-008's wires! I might see if I can wire it up to some kind of universal 6-pin connector (if there is one?) so I can swap out DMG/CGB/MIDI/CV plugs with ease. Could be an interesting project!

Yeah, I'm gonna try Syntrax. The reviews I've read have consisted of people saying that the sounds are unrealistic.. bonus!

I think the main challenge is the lack of a dedicated headphone jack.. maybe I could prosound it hahah tongue

Oh wait, how recent is this update? I received my cart in feb, was there an update since then? The website is a little hard to understand.

Oh great! I have two of the OXY-008 cables; I'm planning to dissect one and use half as a CV/MIDI sync cable and attempt to make a GBM -> DMG/CGB link cable with the other half (I'm sure I saw a tutorial on here for that exact thing). The problem I'm having is getting my multimeter's probes to touch the tiny contacts on the plug! After that I guess it'll be smooth sailing once I figure out the pinouts.

Can you just put the volca in half time mode? I only have the Keys though so I'm not sure if half time mode is exclusive to that particular unit.

Hmm, I've been looking into this actually, I ended up ordering the IC to make this:
http://little-scale.blogspot.com.au/200 … -sync.html

.. but I guess this means I don't need it now? Does the MIDI adaptor described on the nanoloop site allow for the GBA to act as slave (since it has an input as well as an output)? Guess I'll find out! I'm gonna try it with my GB micro sync cable, if I can tell what the pin assignments are.

Unfortunately most of those phones are probably victims of planned obsolescence (ie. malfunctioning/completely dead by now).. unless you can find an unused one somehow!

That said though, this thread reminded me that I have a Sony Ericsson M600i sitting on my bedside table, so I've ordered a USB cable for it and will see if I can get some Symbian music sequencer apps on to it, haha. Not expecting much, since Symbian is a rather shitty OS (and the M600i wasn't oldskool enough to have any actual synthesis chips onboard), but it'd be a funny experiment!

Awesome, I'll grab the used EMS 64M cart thanks (the $25 one), if that's cool! I'll PM you.

hnnnnng I want one but shouldn't buy any more gameboy stuff this pay-month. If he makes more USB-MIDI devices I'll be tempted though..

Ah, must have mis-read the thread. Thought you already had support coded for it!

No worries, will PM now.

Got my joey-squinson today, thanks! I had a bit of a hard time with it though, it doesn't show up at all on my mac (2009 macbook pro running 10.9.5). Works fine on my PC netbook for backing up sav files from (I think?) an EMS 32M flash cart, but I ran into some problems saving the new version of LSDJ on to it.

Admittedly, I tried overwriting the existing file rather than deleting it first, so maybe that was my problem. It seemed to work but then when I ejected it and added it again the file was 0 bytes.

Strangely though, after ejecting again and leaving it for a while it seemed to work properly in my DMG (and displays as the correct size in Explorer), so I guess I'll just leave it as it is for the time being. Any ideas? Did I get a dodgy unit, or am I not supposed to be using it with the old EMS carts?

Ahh, that clears it up. The image on the site only showed the underside.

Looks like I'll have to make an adapter in order to use it with my GBA micro though.. Does anyone have experience with this? I have a DMG-07 and an OXY-008 on the way, hopefully I can make some horrible abomination that can connect to the NL MIDI USB interface and also connect micro to DMG, and maybe even allow charging of micro via USB.. but early days yet, hah.

They look like such simple devices. Are there some hidden components or something?
