Note: I was, er, "not myself" last night, and was being a dick on the internet to amuse myself. There is most likely nothing wrong with that keyboard.

Re: Live Song Transitions? (42 replies, posted in General Discussion)
My transitions suck because I do not know how to write music that is even close to being in one BPM range. Typically, I use the ending of a track as a transition piece. A lot of my songs have arpeggios or sustained notes fade out at the end, this is a good starting place for a new track. Sometimes, if I actually have two songs that are in a similar BPM range and their style is suited for transition between each other, I do beatmatch. I've only been using one Gameboy lately, and a DMG at that (fucking loading times), but the "silence" between tracks has been filled by the applause of the people, so it's worked out.

n00bstar is living up to the first half of his name, because hot damn that thing makes some killer sounds. It's like chipthrash in a box.

Re: DMG or GBA SP? (21 replies, posted in Nintendo Handhelds)
There's a very simple mod for the GBC now where you add a resistor and it pretty much kills the background noise. Another one adds bass (though this isn't necessary as every mixer has EQ). Prosound it for good measure and congratulations, you have the best sounding and fastest Game Boy out there. Front light it for optimum usage, and upgrade your LSDJ cart to the latest version to cut down on sample noise during playback.
I will say though, that since I'm not really playing much chipthrash stuff anymore, I've kinda switched back to using DMGs live when I can (I do not actually own one anymore so I have to borrow). Especially in a live situation, the sound difference isn't that noticeable. I just prefer the size of the DMG over the GBC. I guess size does matter.

Re: user ignore function. (51 replies, posted in Bugs and Requests)
Im guessing what I'm saying is that the forum would be better served if people reported posters who are breaking the rules, and moderators did their job and gave people temp/perm time outs, and people just ignored worthless posters and preposterous thread thesises instead of having a bunch of redacted threads.
I can get on board on a RETIRE THREAD feature though. I just hate it when a troll poster gets a thread punted to the graveyard and there is no repercussions for the people who get it put there, so id rather see a less passive aggressive approach to dealing with assholes.
I have nothing against anyone on the staff here, in fact as far as I know they're all great people, but I will say that if they weren't afraid to occasionally use heavy handed moderation tactics when necessary, there would be a lot less bullshit on this forum.
I used to moderate a few decently sized forums back in the early 2000s and while it's nice to be a community where the staff is more laid back and friendly, eventually that turns into people walking all over you and being fucking assholes on your forum. I've never seen an instance where this didn't happen as forums grow.
It's easy to say "oh, don't feed the trolls, etc etc" but that shit is driving people away. It seems like every time I mention something bad related to this site to any chip artist friends, the response is "yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah, that's why I don't post there very much / anymore". That sucks, this place used to be awesome and a great place to discuss things. Rather than work on a ignore function, the staff might want to consider adding a couple of moderators who aren't afraid to be a dick when the situation calls for it.

That's all the way out in the valley, incredibly far from me so unfortunately I won't be able to play, but I did just hit up Jesse from 1000 Needles, who lives in the valley.

Learning to live with people you dont like is an important social skill.
The internet and real life are two different things. But, most people arguably try to keep their circle of friends free of total cunt faces as well, hence why you do not often see people attempting internet troll tactics in real life (except for maybe Trash80).

There is a cool chiptune show happening in Temecula on March 8th but that's at least a couple hours from Los Angeles and the line up is way way way full. Other than that, I do not know of anything happening. Seeing as how it is already almost March 1st, it would be pretty much impossible to find a venue to host something with such short notice. I usually book shows at least two or three months in advance and even then I've found difficulty getting venues because other promoters like to do this as well. If most of the cool indie / art spaces I used to frequent in 2011 hadn't all closed down, it would be a lot easier to do something but as is, I can't really help

Sometimes the only way there is going to be a local chiptune community is if you get off your ass and create one.
