Thank you Nex!

I wish I had nitro2k01's abilities.

He actually "made" his ROMs, I just hacked the graphics in mine.

I'm not going to be upset if you choose to use his ROMS rather than mine.

His ROMs look pretty damn amazing!

yea but everyone has to start somewhere, and you actually came up with the idea of custom roms which is actually a really awesome idea!

woah omfg!!! seriously you guys you have some raw talent! thanks sooo much SurfaceDragon, your work is great and i am impressed with your home made fonts, but wow i think nitro just won all my internets for the whole month! i tried the static rom out and it is just beautiful! what a legend!!!!!!!!

great work from the both of you some really inspiring stuff, is it possible to get those a little bigger so they aren't so pixelated?

Nex - I can make you one that says NEX or Modded By NeX. Or anything you want really. I can pretty much make you whatever you want to be displayed across the screen. Then you can use it when you take pictures of your sick-nasty modded Game Boys.

now that is an actual awesome idea! yea if you could make a rom that says Modded by NeX in some way that would be really great!

i keep trying to take photos when the nintendo logo is in the middle of the screen, but that would be so much better.

if you mean the nintendo start-up screen, i remember reading how thats a part of the gameboy's boards and not something you can change with a gb rom.

or something along those lines.

half and half, you can change it to say what ever you want, but it will always scroll down and it will always be that size and it wont work in a colour or anything after that.

awesome work with these rom pics, i cant think of a need i personally would have for one but i still think they are an awesome idea!

My preliminary analysis indicates that this is not possible with the EMS carts. The USB chip doesn't seem to use the cartridge slot to access the memory, but has its way of accessing the chip through the logic chip.

thats a shame, because the bleepbloop carts are so full of evil

it works by lifting the "enable" pins of the rom and MBC5 chips from the board, by lifting them they can then be tied to either ground of 5v+ which switches them on and off. by disabling the rom chip and the MBC5 which in turn disables the ram chip, the signals from the programming circuit are passed on to the next cart. if you left the chips enabled, both carts would be programmed or crash. as for doing it on an EMS, it depends on what chips they use, and it depends on how big the pins are and if they can actually be lifted.

remember that a plug and a socket are the reverse of each other,

in your diagram you would be looking at the back of the ps2 socket not the front, so you are looking at the pin side of things,

yea it was a cheap hongkong thing from ebay, first of all i halved the size by taking the battery out, then i cut the antenna off, then cut off the usb charging socket and the charging circuit, so i was able to cut it down to about half the size of a postage stamp (same size as a half speed crystal)

haha well the gameboy has been sitting in bits for a while, i opened it up to put in a battery monitor light (made by Kitsch and very awesome!) but the gameboy broke and the shear task of fixing it, broke my heart and i left it for about 2 months, but i got it working again today and it feels great to have my desk clear!

Hi everyone,

i have been stupidly busy building gameboys for other people that i have had no time to build any for me. but now i got a bit of free time, i decided to take apart RGB boy and fit a bluetooth audio transmitter inside. now the gameboy has a bluetooth wireless pro sound. it works pretty well but there are just a few problems, the first problem is a delay in the audio. its fine for one gameboy but any other instruments at the same time and they would be out of sync.

the other problem is that there is slight distortion added by the bluetooth compression and a ground loop problem that causes a slight buzz. you can only really hear it when the music is not playing, but its not as good as a real pro sound.

the bluetooth unit is in the back between the cartridge slot and the battery compartment, there is an extendible antenna on the top of the gameboy and a button to switch the bluetooth on and off. it takes quite a bit of power which is not good on a gameboy that is already low on power, and the battery warning light on the bottom switches on now and again because of it.

over all i am pleased with it, and i think it would work a lot better in a gameboy that doesn't have all the extra crap in it.

the alien technology recovery team from the Smithsonian is already on it, if Nex doesnt escape the planet soon, him and his DMG's never will.

once i have enough gameboys i will have enough to power my ship back to its home planet

Yeah, you'd think a guy like that could afford a blue or even a white game boy. He's just thrown $1 million at tigers.

i wish he would. maybe he could pay $800 per grey boy too big_smile

Yes, and also, in the last design, I have connected the LED's to a spare pin on the CPLD, by default they will be turned on, but using some not used bits on MBC5 writes, you can turn them on and off, so perhaps we can ask for a LSDJ version that does blinking, it will be very easy to code.

blinking could also mean midi sync
