Darkman007 released another one of his yearly chiptune albums\EPs and he asked me to spread it around. If you are a fan of his music or like tracker modules, you should definitely check this out. If you're not in any of those two categories, check it out anyway. You might like it. Check out his other releases as well.

BTW, can you use a C64 with the Mssiah cartridge as a MIDI instrument in a DAW (say FL Studio)? From what I remember, you can, but you obviously have to program the sounds on the C64.

Man, I love LFO (sine wave LFO for pulse or sawtooth waveforms) pads so much. Here's an example (right at the beginning of the song): http://youtu.be/ohnzFKUSv1o
I've heard this type of sound in songs by 4mat and Xerxes, but other demoscene artists as well (another notable example in the intro of this song). It has a kind of creepy aspect to it as well as a moody one.

Do you have children? If not get back to me when you reach that point In your life. Respecting the wishes of the woman who carried your kid for 9 months and then births it gives her opinion whether it fits yours or not some leverage.
That's not how (fair) relationships work.

it's just be a jumping off point, you need chemistry too. dont you think people who use uniform dating care also about personality & things as well as just uniforms?
All I'm saying is that it's not a good starting point. Chiptune is my favorite genre too, but it's just not something I think about when I evaluate someone.
If you are worried that you won't be able to listen to chiptune or any other music that you really like when your partner is around, then there must be something wrong with that relationship.

Re: chiptune dating (70 replies, posted in General Discussion)
I don't think having a fondness for chip music is a good enough reason on its own to date someone. You could have a lot of things in common with someone and still not get along well enough or have notable differences between you that would deem the relationship not worth continuing\starting. I think that looking for a partner that is open minded, understanding, patient, etc is more useful.
I'm currently in a situation where I know someone who likes me and we have a lot in common in terms of music tastes (though not chiptune) and just about anything else, but she is kinda lacking in the patience department plus she tends to make rash appreciations about things because on some subjects she has preconceived ideas. She also seems to have an inability to overcome her emotions at times (which is something I wouldn't say about girls that aren't as smart as her; it's kinda ironic).

Re: What are your favourite genres of music? (33 replies, posted in General Discussion)
My all time favorite would have to be either chiptune or experimental electronic music. I think both are equally as good for me.
I also like techno and ambient music a lot. There are other genres (including non-electronic), but I don't listen to that stuff as often.

Really, how many songs can be dedicated to bathroom induced inspiration?
Seven apparently: http://www.8bitpeoples.com/discography/by/vim

Less than a few, but no more than zero lol.
I think that pooping and thinking works, but not that and doing something that requires concentration (like composing).

Really...? Nobody else is drinking milk? The stuff of gods.
I have lactose intolerance and I also find it gross. I haven't tried plant milk though.
Currently drinking the same generic energy drink. Not the kind of good stuff I usually drink though.

Re: Release format opinions (grouping tracks) (20 replies, posted in General Discussion)
I blend everything I like...
I think this is the ideal way for me to make music because in my opinion that's where most of the innovative ideas\sounds come from, experimentation.
I don't mind if there are songs made on multiple platforms on the same album, for example Game Boy, C64, and NES, but if the mastering\mixing differs based on platform that might be a little off-putting. Though in all honesty I don't really care. It's up to the artist to decide what the theme(s) of the release should be.

Some interesting stuff. The strangest one I've heard so far is the first one TylerBarnes posted. It sounds kinda creepy.

What is the weirdest or most unusual sound you created and used in a song? Maybe you could post a link to the song itself along with a description of what you are referring to. I assume most chip musicians create their own sounds most of the time.
Mine would have to be the bassline in this project: https://soundcloud.com/q-b/unconditional-love-wip
My best friend said it sounded like a tractor engine lol. It kinda does sound like an engine except that the pitch is lower in the sound I made. It's just a tweaked percussion instrument sample.
I like incorporating unusual sounds in my music. There are so many nice sounds around us, for example the sound of the fan(s) in my computer has a soothing characteristic. It would work well in an ambient song.

Haha. I tried GoatTracker too and I couldn't get into it. I think trackers are really cool but I haven't been able to learn to use any. Maybe I will try to learn that in the future.
I've been using FL Studio since 2008-2009. I think the first music program I stumbled upon was Renoise. I had no idea how to use it at the time (still don't) but that was probably one of the things that influenced me to be curious about making music. I had an older version of FL Studio after that, but I quickly forgot about it again until 2008 (when I really started to like chiptune and decided to start making my own).
I use Wasp XT, SimSynth, and other native FL plugins most of the time, but sometimes I use other free plugins as well.
