it is a joke, this comps not happening unless someone else wants to be in charge of it, cuz I certainly don't wanna be.

I attempt to listen to music here but get "File Not Found" 80% of the time. Just took me like 10 refreshes to get that Unicorn Dream Attack song to play

if we talk actual composition and not making/designing/whatevering the sounds, most of the songs on my album Robotic Uprising took around 3-5 hours each to basically write and arrange, granted i don't use real hardware so the process is probably faster for me, but i generally don't like working on songs for too long. I used to never save my projects because I figured if I couldn't finish in one sitting, it wasn't inspired to begin with. the times I've done parts of songs and came back to later and put more than an afternoon of work into usually sound worse than the ones I bang out real quick. How some people spend months or even years (c'mon Dr. Dre) working on songs is beyond me.

that could be cool, if I have some time maybe I'll do a couple, but I kinda wanna get this comp out there this month so I can't promise anything. If someone wants to help make some pixel versions of the Boys that'd be awesome.

and some of those other comps you listed were also doing something sadly absent in most chip comps: they were organized behind closed doors and actually curated... the organizers chose who they wanted on it and asked if theyd submit a track... too many open call comps happen in this scene and are done with little to no quality control

well this makes sense to me, but I didn't really know many people who made chip because when i pitched the comp was when i first started being active on here, and not just lurking. I wasn't about to message a bunch of my favorite artists asking for a track because I was/am kind of a nobody, and I'm glad I didn't because some of the people I respected a lot turned out to be dicks. So far the submissions I've received for Beastie Boys comp are great though, and going off some of the other people's music I'm expecting some quality stuff. I just kind of view the open compilation calls as a way for people still finding their way in the chip scene to do something fun to at least spread their stuff a little more than just putting up singles on soundcloud and what not. Even if only 50 people grab a compilation, that might be 45 more than would grab someone's albums for all we know.

I love the artwork concept and excecution, just not sure if the Sabotage characters are all-encompassing enough... maybe a few cover variants representing a few phases of the beastie's career would be cool... like one in fight for your right garb, one with the yellow space/jumpsuits, one in adidas jumpsuits, etc. ?

do you mean like different covers where all 3 are wearing their costumes/outfits, or like each one wearing a different one on this one cover? either way is a good suggestion.

also, the beastie boys one is something I genuinely care about. i was originally going to just make a bunch of remixes myself but thought, "hey, maybe some of these people would want to do a compilation because they love the Beastie Boys as well." Did people complain this much when the Weezer, Daft Punk, Chip For Cancer, Chiptune=WIN, and whatever other comps were conceived? Buncha Negative Nancy's in this scene I swear. What's wrong with people doing shit they want to do? you don't have to take part, and your musical integrity is not being desecrated because a group of other people did something you don't like. you guys should vent your frustrations to the kids who don't even know there is a chiptune scene using guitarpro to make "8-bit" covers and uploading the "songs" on youtube that get way more popular than anything most of us have made, not get all pissy at the people who actually enjoy the whole chipmusic scene and just want to contribute to it and be a part of it.

inb4 a bunch of people being dicks in response to my rant

this thread was a joke though...

if you spend more time than the actual length of the song, you are doing it wrong.

Improvise every song and do it right the first try. Challenge accepted.

I received it. I love it.

What do you guys think of something like this for artwork? No one offered any suggestions for what to do so I've been messing with some concepts.

God damn the drop in "Monsters Under the Bed" is so good.

the difference is it'd be cool to have all people who genuinely care about chipmusic making songs poking fun at the scene kind of. I wouldn't even take part if it meant some more popular veterans of the scene would do this. i guess it would be more of just a fun joke for all of us, but anyone who wasn't really active on here or with chiptune in general would just think we're some assholes or something. or inversely it will completely backfire and make chiptune super mainstream, which would also be hilarious. obviously this is a weird idea for a comp and i doubt it will actually happen, it just sounds like a fun/ny idea. Maybe instead of a comp we could do like a 48hr challenge or something and just put the songs up here, 8bc style.

Rules:

1. Make a song that you think would ruin chiptune, or mocking some things people already do that you think is ruining the scene.
2. Make said song still listenable. Not just 2 minutes of straight noise channel with mario coins and vocal samples from a game or whatever.
3. Covers and remixes are acceptable.
4. Saskrotch has to do one or allow it to be called "Saskrotch presents: Chiptune Sucks"  (or whatever)
5. Deadline tbd when/if enough interest is expressed.
