Is it really that hard to wire a link cable to a ps2 keyboard? It is a great introduction to soldering and modding. Plus if you want to mod your gameboy later on you can save a few bucks rather than paying someone to do it for you. IMO just useful knowledge to have

Well, yes, a little. Normally, the link cable doesn't carry the extra +5V line. You have ta open up the link cable connector and swap a pin.

See: http://www.flickr.com/photos/trash80/se … 967984405/

This is difficult to do on some of the cheaper link cables since it's hard to do without wrecking the pin.

That's also why that adapter can't work well. There is no power supply line in the unmodified link cables. (And you're supposed to be able to use an unmodified link cable...)

However, if anyone actually has one of these adapters and have a success story, feel free to tell me.

That adapter wont work, or it will work badly. Don't bother.

Besides, it's sold out.

Try this: http://store.kitsch-bent.com/product/usb-64m-smart-card
You also need to buy a LSDj license from http://www.littlesounddj.com/lsd/ (Costs $2)

I'm also going to move this thread to the right section.

Well, here's some sort of really old news on this. Months ago Rolf sent me the Eagle files for the project, after which I started to reroute the whole thing. I basically got stuck after rerouting the RAM chip between the CPU and the cartridge slot. Even though it took a dirty trick of rearranging the address lines a bit (which doesn't affect the functionality in the slightest) I'm pretty proud of how much space I managed to save. I even managed to get back the ground copper plate on the back (which connects to the "arm" on the display board).

Right now, I'm stalled too, however.

Staff has just decided to add a rule that thread titles must describe the contents of the thread. Something like "Have you seen this?" or "How would you feel if..." or "If this is any indication..." ( wink ) doesn't cut it anymore.  Such titles might/will be edited to something better.

12. Thread titles should describe the topic of the thread. Please avoid titles like "Help!" or "Have you seen this...". Something like "How can I do a beefy bassdrum with Midines?" or "I just saw a chip music reference at the bus stop" is good. Staff reserves the right to edit unclear thread titles to something more descriptive.

Removed the number from the last rule ("we reserve the right to amend...") so we don't have to increase its number every time we add a rule. smile

Yeah, basic stuff. I had a bit of a revelation, though. I realized that's actually you in your avatar. I somehow always thought it was some random image from somewhere.

Ok, maybe 4. Contact HKEMS and make them write Linux driver. Highly unlikely to ever work, since they don't even seem to understand English properly.

You do know that not everyone on this planet has english as their first language. Write to them in chinese instead tongue

I'm sure EMS's English is better than Arfink's Chinese, though...

So this is what I've done so far for NeX:

The ROM comes in two flavours: One with a fixed background and one with a scrolling background. The one with the scrolling background isn't completed yet; it needs a lot more manual tweaking because I'm using a hack to simulate the effect a big moving background plane, something that isn't possible using only the hardware functionality. Right now that version has blocky gaps where I haven't fixed the effect.

Admittedly, I "cheated" by using Photoshop to create the initial text, but that doesn't mean it was effortless. Still a lot of tweaking and fixing, not to mention the assembly language coding.

SD, you don't know this, but after I saw this thread, I offered to do some graphics for NeX, too, which I've been working on throughout the day today.

Also, if you just want to display the Nintendo logo as it is, all you have to do is to make an endless loop (in asm) without clearing the screen. At least on a DMG. Things are a bit different on GBC, though.

My preliminary analysis indicates that this is not possible with the EMS carts. The USB chip doesn't seem to use the cartridge slot to access the memory, but has its way of accessing the chip through the logic chip.

You could still distribute IPS patches for LSDj/nanoloop...
