How about people that mod gameboys and sell them online? I'm sure they make more than the average chiptuner

My grandmother is really excited every time I do something new with modding my gameboy, she's probably the most positive about it. Not really sure what my parents think of it, and I don't know if my brother even knows I do it.

My friends are all really into it, before I really knew my roommate he introduced me to people as "the coolest person he knew" because I wrote music on a gameboy.

My girlfriend (before we were dating) was in my house one day and saw my gameboys while I wasn't home and later told me I was her hero. Whenever we're in the car and I'm playing anything chip related she asks if it's mine, and I feel a little bummed because it usually isn't.

Her roommate always calls it blip music, and tells me how much he listened to my "ip" (he means my ep). This guy generally annoys me.

DMG through my guitar amp sounds pretty awful.  Maybe some EQing on the mixer would help a bit.  Also, it's mono, so if you have some crazy stereo panning that's vital to the sound, you'll lose that and the song might sound a bit odd.

My live setup is actually already in mono, which is kind of shitty, but it is that way because I have it go through a modular low pass filter that only accepts mono.

If it's the right type of bass amp, go for it. Some have a tape in, and eq section, or sometimes both. A bass amp with 100 or so watts and a 15in speaker should be plenty for a house party.

Alright, I'm hoping it's a bass amp as I believe the guy whose amp I'll be using plays bass.

Thanks guys, I guess I'll badger them to see if they can find a PA somewhere, and I'll also look around town for one I can borrow

I'm thinking Saskrotch is right, but could you give us some more info on what you're usin?

It's not my gear, but the amp of somebody at the house.

Basically I've got a behringer mixer that  I run a DMG into, and then a Doepfer filter that I run a DMG through and into the mixer

I'm going to play a houseshow soon, and the only option is to play through an amplifier. Is there anything I should watch out for?

Not sure about San Diego, but Olympia WA's chipscene is essentially non-existant. Seattle / Tacoma have a decent one, although mainly based around a handful of artists.

Could I get the orange USB one from you?

A while ago I got a Kaossilator pro, and was annoyed that I couldn't edit the patches / add new patches, because of this I returned it. However recently someone told me that you can modify it for new patches- is this true?

works fine on underclocked units.

the slow nature in the way LSDJ responds in your underclocked gameboy is fine.  underclocking slows down the processor speed, you are seeing/feeling it in the slow response.

if you slow it down enough, you can see the screen refreshing itself (pulsating sort of).

When I mentioned the cursor speed I meant after I switched the cartridge out to a stock gameboy I found that the number value in the cursor refresh setting was something really high, like 4C (not the exact value, but a estimation of what it actually is without turning it on and checking).

My best route of attack for your situation would be as follows:
Backup .Sav data is on the cart, upgrade software if you haven't done so (reflash isn't a bad idea either). After that then proceed to reformat the LSDJ by going to the project menu with the cursor over 'load/save song' and pressing Select+A buttons simultaneously. When asked "Really?" click yes, when done the cart will be empty of saved songs.

Alright, I'll try this on the cart that crashes the most and see if it fixes it. (my cart with up to date software is working fine after using it on a stock gameboy and resetting the corrupted Sav data)

I've had a problem with two EMS carts that I've used with underclocked gameboys- the first was an underclocking I did with a slower crystal, the second was with an easyclick. After using the cartridge with an underclocked gameboy the cursor move information gets erased and it is set to a really slow setting. Often times the cartridge boots to the nintendo logo with a block missing, or with scrambled text.  LSDJ is installed on both pages of the cartridge. If it boots then it works for a few minutes at a time then crashes. New Sav data does nothing to fix the issue. Anyone encountered this before?

When I started out I used 40 as my blank chain.

I hadn't looked up any LSDJ guides and thus didn't know about kill commands, but found that if I put instrument 40 on a pulse channel that it went silent.

friend asked for my .sav to remix a song I wrote, he WTF'd and told me what was up

Hurrr durrrrrrr

I've always wondered what many chippers do for a living.

I'm a student, studying Computer science, film, and new media.

I compose a lot of styles of music in addition to chiptune, but never finish anything

I enjoy doing improvisational comedy, small electronics projects, and reading. I also mountain bike- weather permitting (which in Washington is never).

I make short films from time to time, as well as strange short animations.
