cool album, i liked milk chocolate buttons a lot; it travelled a lot.

album mastering is a bit inconsistent. it felt like some of the tracks were really squashed and had some noticeable comp artifacts, and others were right on point

He wasnt on time, he didnt even apologised. I have other guy's box after a FAKE tracking number.

gosh any way you look at it, giving somebody a fake tracking number is a super weird thing to do. is that even something that happens?

isn't that basically what the ninstrument guy's thing is?

What level would you suggest for the raw guitar input? Mine peaked at about -2 db.

averaging around -20dBu...it's ok to record at whatever level you can hear well and then just bring the gain down afterwards  and amplify it w/ the plugin's "circuitry"...this depends on the plugin as well, some work just fine at line level, maybe just play w/ it and see what sounds best?

Thanks for the feedback!
Any other suggestions? (besides spending $ to get amps and pedals IRL smile )

By squash you mean compress, yes? I'll try that.

yes, squash as in compress the vocals a bit more, they aren't sitting right

the tone you have now w/ your guitar is more avril lavigne than classic rock, i might actually back off the overdrive a little bit, see what kind of grit you can get with the modeled amp first, the ramming of OD'd signal into the amp effect which tend to already sound a bit toastier than the real thing gives the guitar a very digital character.

you can try playing around with getting the guitar sound into some kind of space, idk about the modeling plugin you're using, but some of them end up needing a little bit of realistic room verb to sound convincing, try a "guitar room" preset or something on your favorite reverb, and bring it down to a the point where it's right on the line of imperceptible

would be interested to know how the guitar was recorded, sounds like it may have been D/I? sounds artificial or something..

mix-wise i think your vocal is up too loud, it's using up a lot of space and makes your aggressive instrumentation sound a bit wimpy, also kind of robs you of a solid tonal center and makes it obvious where you get pitchy. just squash it a bit more to keep it present, but bring down the fader

Mastering is not a per-song process, it's an album process. Any time a guy offers "mastering per song" you can bet your ass it's a guy who will just run your stuff through a compressor and some EQ and give you a bombastic track. That has nothing to do with actual mastering. Mastering compression should be almost imperceptible. If there's something that requires extreme work in the track, then the mix is bad and mastering can do nothing about that in 99% of all cases.

when I'm mixing an album that I know will be mastered by a different engineer I'll use very little, if any, master buss compression and EQ (i like to mix with a little bit of a high end bump on the master, but i usually take that off by the end). i feel like mastering engineers can be pretty heavy-handed while compressing to a desired loudness. I'd rather an engineer with nicer, more transparent gear handle the master buss processing than myself as the mix engineer..

my condolences during this difficult time

Just wondering, how well do the SPL units work for doing really compressed masters for like electronic music and whatnot.

i feel like ive seen them around a lot, but mostly for the the standard rock fare

i appreciate the tips, this is actually really good stuff for me; i tend to get cemented in my workflow. just played around some with doing song mode mutes and then drawing a tempo map in PT.

it was kind of a hassle, but took less time than chopping it up all over the place. might dust off the Aboy and see if that ends up working better.

Hi guys,

I've had some questions for a while regarding the stability of the clock in LSDJ. I've been running V. 4.6.9, and have been finding it very difficult to multitrack because of small fluctuations in the tempo of each play.

I typically record each track in live mode, top to the first transient and sync from there. That being said, it seems like my tracks pretty quickly fall out of sync, in some case by several samples, others being pretty crippled by ms differences. It gets to the point where I'll just grab a few bars and loop them to keep it tight.

Has anybody encountered something similar when recording LSDJ? I'm not sure if it's a hardware or version issue, but it's a real hassle, and if there is a better way it'd save me a lot of time!

Thanks

Don't mean to be rude but, if you can't grow the balls to be a man at 18 years old then maybe your mom is right to not let you manage your bank account. Just saying and all.

I'm 22, and I still have my parents name on my account. I'm fortunate enough to have their help paying for school for the past four years, and I pay my school bills through that account. If they're helping me out financially, I don't see any reason to block them out of the account. idk what OP's situation is, but no shame imo
