Regarding the color scheme, I really don't care, I'm guessing you read it since you guys are posting here so there is no real problem.

*raises hand* I only skimmed it for keywords and phrases. I just couldn't get myself to just "sit down" to it, ya know? But maybe that's just me. I usually sit  2-4 feet away form my monitor, and it was hard to make it from that distance, even when I zoomed in. It's just a tad too dark.

But, yeah, that's the least of things to worry about, especially if only a few people are complaining about it.

It's more directed towards getting people started.

Why not reccomend free programs like sunvox, deflemask, famitracker, klystrack, maybe milkytracker, maybe piggytracker, etc.?

And HivelyTracker and BoyScout and Paragon5 Tracker

Yeah... if you want people to read that you really should choose a color scheme that's easier on the eyes. That purple is just a little too dark. Also, the writing style feels a bit amateurish. It reads like a forum post rather than an article.

Those colors are really hard on the eyes.

I'm pretty sure that crosses the line between art and things that should not be posted at an all-ages site.

Those colors are really painful to read.

I've seen some on youtube. Don't really have a link, but if you feel like it you may be able to find it before somebody else posts with an actual link.

Anyway, I thought the tune conveyed the title effectively.

There's a lot of rumors and misinformation going on about the XO. You don't pay a registration fee for new games. You just enter the one-time use code, and anybody who has an account on that machine can play the game.

If you want to loan the game to a friend THEN THEY have to pay the full price of the game to get a new one-time use code. However, if you go to his house and sign in to your account, you can play it for free.

It's still stupid and over-complicated, but the gossip must stop.

it's hard to get the right tonal noise sound on the gameboy imo

use a strong, fast attack with a low sustain level. also if your "hi hats" are panned one way you can pan the ride the other way and it'll sound more like a ride (trust me on this)

Haha, yeah, man. That's exactly what I did. big_smile I actually panned my hi hats specifically so I could pan the ride in the opposite side.

I feel like creating a strong contrast between your open hi hat sound and your ride sound would help. That way when the ride comes in the average listener will be able to recognize the change even if it doesn't sound exactly like a ride.

I thought the Square and X buttons served as B and A on the Playstation. ?

Oh, wait, I see, Triangle looks like the letter A.

I've been trying (not very hard) to do this too. I ended up going for more of a ride-bell sound. The best I got was to have a beep on the attack and then let it decay into a light open hihat type sound. I imagine you'd want more "tone" in your ride cymbal than a hi-hat would have, either that or, how I did it, with a really light staticky sound.

Chiptune is a *genre* of *pop music*

Oh, people here are going to love this one.

Interesting article though, I enjoyed reading through it, but I'm not really sure if he's making any kind of statement with it.

He kind of corrects that statement in the next paragraph:

There were artists who canted toward electronica, and others who canted toward acoustica, and others who canted toward industrial, and others who canted toward novelty.

So it shouldn't be that bad.

you forgot the link

I know you said you didn't want to wade through an archive randomly, but I ran into http://amp.dascene.net/home.php and found it kind of interesting. I don't know how I came across it, but Laxity is pretty cool, especially his non-chiptune .xm modules with the vocalizing and guitar samples.
Edit: the other archives mentioned in this thread probably have everything that amp.dascene has =\

Edit: herr_prof, do you really think the scene as a majority values process over result? Maybe it's just a vocal minority.

I dont think this forum comes close to representing the scene as a whole.

Okay. Yeah. My bad, I misread your "community" as "scene". =`_`=

kfaraday: the fugue writing process is too restricting. I'd much rather write a concerto with fugue elements, because fugue is a really cool sound, but I'd like to do more with it.

Edit: I understood what TCTD was about. It took me a bit, though. At first I honestly did think it was a puritanical type thing.
