Why are people still talking about the harlem shake all of the sudden? That's the third reference to it I've seen this year. Am I really so out of touch?

You should record ALL notes that you want to use to not lose the FM sound, a pain.

A bit off-topic, but I actually did that recently: I recorded HivelyTracker samples note by note for use in the Android beat maker "Groove Mixer", since it was the best interface for my device that I could find at the time, but didn't have any type of pitch capabilities (it's a beat box, not a melody maker). Anyway... yeah...

This is exciting.

Milky Tracker does not support VST, but OpenMPT does. I think that's Windows only, though.

it does have a little latency, that said unless you are trying to play things in real time (as opposed to playing back pretracked material) it doesn't really matter.

I absolutely love using sunvox on my android jxd s5300 (chinese psp knockoff) as the dpad and buttons make for a more enjoyable experience than tracking on my iphone (that and the fact that it's a game console seem to make it feel a little more chipmusic) so I accept the limitation.

Man! That's a great value. Shoot... If I'd known about this thing I'd not have gotten my cheap little budget 4.3 inch tablet...

It'd be perfect for tracking LSDJ when I'm not wearing my so-baggy-Gameboy-fits-in-pocket jeans.

Is Chip Maestro some kind of re-imagining of Midines?
Edit: Nevermind :S

h, OK then we are on the same page.  I think I didn't realize how much of his percussion was samples because a lot of those sounds could be synthesized with LSDj.

But they wouldn't sound exactly the same, and they wouldn't have that dirty sampled buzzy noise that we love so much.

Personally, I don't get using drum samples with LSDj simply because of how good it is for synthesizing your own drums from scratch. That's half the fun for me.

Sometimes you just want a certain sound, regardless of how you get that sound. For me, manipulating samples in LSDJ is incredibly rewarding and satisfying and fun. Sometimes I barely even use the other 3 channels.

Edit: Hm. Off-topic...

Is anybody working on adding players for the filetypes that don't currently have one? .mid, .sid, .xm, .mod, .ahx, etc.

Hmm, Im using lots of V commands actually, and a few chord (C) here and there. I also use lots of w commands for arps.

Im more concerned about a technopop instrument by itself (maybe using a table, maybe using sweep, i dont know, i rarely use PU1 ) than spicing the melody. Ima try the TSP column, thanks

EDIT: Nah, sounds too arp-ish for what I'm looking for.

Maybe if I post some non.chip examples you guys could guide me better?

Yes. Also, have you tried using the TSP without having it "H" back and keep looping the TSP? Kind of a popcornish sound.

Sweep is pretty useless for what you want, I think. It's a hardware P command, basically.

OH, I forgot, have you tried using really high V commands to get a scratchy sound? Like, V43, V57, that type of thing.

I'm baffled. I have 2 songs with 17 views and 0 comments, one has a rating of 3 and the other had a rating of 0.

The post that herr_prof linked to neglected to take into account downloads, I believe. I actually intentionally download songs that I like, to boost the rating. It's my way of thumbsing it up.

Thuis is kind of an open-ended question. There are many ways to make your PU leads more interesting. You could use some W commands. You could use 0C, 18, etc, in the TSP column. You could put one W command at the beginning to give it a blip effect. You could use V commands. Lot's of stuff you can do. My generic go-to pulse lead is a 25% that goes to W12.5%, with some Vibrato thrown in after it's rung out for awhile.

I've been using a lot of "plain" pulse lately, though.

Awesome name is awesome

It seems like you'd have to use some sort of NES emulation to get it running in the game. You'd probably be better off using a sample tracker to write the music in a .mod, .xm, .it, etc, format.

Do the devs of the project even want to go through all that?

bulkier (and harder to loop) mp3s.

Oggs loop pretty well, right? If you're into lo-fi, you could use mpeg-layer-3 compressed .wavs (that's a little trick I learned working with Game Maker. With the old sndrec program, you could compress a wav  file to a tiny size without losing too much quality, and it would loop perfectly).

No, Cave Story did not use an NES format. Pixel himself actually created the sequence editor and file format for his game. The editor is called OrgMaker. The music player with the game soundtrack is called OrgView (Org stands for Organya, I believe).

I don't know how he handled activating the in-game music, and I don't know the source of the sounds he used in the music (most likely he made them himself).

I played a Megaman fangame (Megaman Revolution) that used NES samples in a single .it module for the entire soundtrack.
