thousands of people could discover the joy of giving away something that's cost them moolah.

you don't seriously believe this do you? Even the ones who sit there ranting for days about how they don't care about the money  and just want to make music out of love will throw a shit fit if someone posts their album for free somewhere. If people were gonna give out free cd's they probably are already. Even if every music website ever posted your email, most people would probably be like, "bah. Give my music out for free? Good one old sport" as they polish their monocles and wait for someone to download their 15 dollar albums.

I think giving product out for free is different than having said product Robin Hooded out from under you. Especially when it's face to face and there is yet a possibility of still making money off of it.

@slow-streaming: I've had that problem with cm.o's music straeming, but never with bandcamp. Hm.

Yeah. That's how we do fund-raiser car washes. "Free Car Wash: Donations Accepted"

It sounds cool. Reminds me of something that'd be in a One Must Fall sequel/remake...

Try altering the chord progression, either as an add-on to the track as it is, or as a bridge between sections. You could also try adding a lead melody in some places.

I don't want to be a dick here, but ANAMANAGUCHI is really the only successful band to get that combination right, its like linkin park vs. Limp Buicut .

No no no no no no

That's not counting the "unsuccessful" bands who got the combination right, right?

Well, that was a fun aural assault. Heard a bit of weird science in there.

Have you tried it with any normal Gameboy game carts?

Edit: I was just curious, but it's over now, I guess.

For me, I'm usually more into the non-hits on an LP than the songs that get the most hype. I'm always like, "They should play THIS one on the radio all the time".

What do you mean by "true"? I might have a misconception on the definition of fakebit...

I don't use them to try to actually sound like real 8bit.
At least, I haven't yet except for that one time I made that 8bit remix of the Megaman Legends "Main Gate" theme.

I'm probably splitting a hair here and making up a distinction that does not exist. Carry on.

one has to take into account notes that don't cut off right at the end of the phrase, but have a longer decay.

LMMS has some cool retro-game-hardware inspired plugins (BitInvader, Freeboy, SID). I don't know how proper they sound, but I've gotten some cool fun sounds out of it. It's not high-end (It's free), but it is a FLStudio type DAW. I don't really use them for true fakebit (well, I did once...), but I do use them a lot.

Can you go a little more in depth on this? My only experience with the term is in regards to museum displays.

Second one sounds like a boing sound, jumping up an octave. Kind of like King Hippo as an adolescent, his voice just beginning to drop...

That's a good point. I always feel cheated when I buy a $16 CD and only 2/3 of the disc has been used. Or even worse, half.

This brings to mind the demoscene and trying to cram as much content as possible on a floppy disk, or realizing "Hey, we've got 2 extra kbs on this disk! Let's fill them with sweet sweet music!"

getting through all of them actually felt like a bit of a chore.  and these albums were all GOOD ones!!

YES! in general, especially if you're going down the list of new release posts on cm.o and there's a whole bunch of them at the same time. It feels like an obligation rather than an adventure of discovery.

You could put P commands on every channel at the end of your songs so you have some noise going on while you're loading the next song? Or if you have a delay guitar pedal, you could activate that on the last note and have that echoing out while you're loading.

You could also compose a new set all in the same song file, and separate each song by empty spaces.

This sounds fantastic.  wink

Edit: Also, I think you should take the gig if you're confident with your compositions and presence.
