I'm releasing my first EP SEA with Lowtoy records (www.lowtoy.com) on Nov 3rd
The first single, Cobalt, released today: http://soundcloud.com/vegas-diamond/cobalt
Check it out

The EP was made with Nanoloop 1.6 on a DMG, with some occasional parts played on a casio Vl-Tone with some guitar effects and stuff

Thanks for the comments! I really love meshuggah and I know exactly what you mean by linkin park's 'session' track, I think it's a great track. Would love to make stuff like that!

Sketchman3: I now get what you mean! The first snare is also 1/32 early, but that was all on purpose, maybe a bit too much then.
This is actually made with nanoloop, so I don't really know what you mean by the P and L command. I used the pulse channels for the bass sound, and the S channel (which I guess is what the wave channel is on lsdj) for the Sine Kick.

Thanks for the comments/listens!

Thanks about the hi-hat tip! I'm actually really having trouble imagining in which parts you guys think the drums sound unintentionally off.

The drums are straight for most of the song, only in the second part of the song do they vary and become off-beat. The second snare is 1 beat 'late' and there's some extra snares, but always on a beat (1/4) or half-beat (1/8). Sorry if I misunderstood or anything.

Thanks again

Ok, thanks for the comments, I know what you mean about the snare being cut off too quickly but I can't help it since a hi-hat needs to come right after it and I only have one noise channel. I might be able to fix that by getting a second DMG to play the hats. The drums are also on maximum volume so the rest is probably too loud, I'll EQ them in some more I guess.

George, could you explain how you think the beats are broken, but in a bad way, like which part? obviously I was going for a broken feel, but I don't think I went too far or anything. Thanks again! Keep em coming

ALSO, I just finished reading the apple dragon fiasco above me and I realise that some of the things said there apply to me. I do not mean to be rude by asking for constructive criticism without being 'a part of the community'. I try to make tunes that are enjoyable (and release the ones that I enjoy). If you feel that me posting this is rude, let me know, I didn't really know there were rules for this.

THANKS

Great thread A++ would read again

Hey guys,

Made this like 2 days ago, I'm actually really satisfied with this one but the opinions of my friends and family is divided, some people really like it, some people hate it. I'd like to get some criticism on this, see if it can be improved.

The ending or second part of the song seems to be the most polarizing. Let me know! Thanks!

THIS IS GREAT! really enjoying the dub set so far. Also listened to the beginning of the hiphop set.
The dub set really reminds me of Quarta-330 (not sure if this is a compliment, but I love his work!), love it! big_smile

I might be interested! how much would the shipping be to europe (Belgium or Netherlands specifically)? What kind of DMG is it?

Thanks!

Very well-written piece! Awesome that you put it on a floppy disk

back when 8bc was up I found a nice track by a guy called byzanite, it was called rubberdub rae and it came pretty close to what i'd call dubstep on a gameboy setup.

you can of course make chip-influenced dubstep on a pc with plugins but I think making what most people would consider dubstep on like 8-bit or 16-bit hardware would be pretty hard with all those drops and hard filtering.

Thanks for the advice! I'm already using a sine wave for the bassline though. I might try putting the kick on the S channel and see if I can fit something else on the R

Yes It's the one with the blend, the nanoloop signal was recorded with a 25% blend in fact. I think the reason you don't hear much of the fuzz is that the filter was behind the fuzz, killing most of the top-end crunch

Thanks for the feedback! I'm going to rework the track and either make it shorter or add another riff or fills etc. You are totally right about the ending, I first recorded nanoloop and then recorded the solo over the loop but it ended up being too short.

About the big muff, it's actually a bass big muff with all the buttons cranked, it can't get any nastier than this, which is disappointing!

Thanks again! I'll post the reworked version when it's done

Hi, I'm Stephan and I'm from Maastricht in the Netherlands which has no chiptune community at all! I started playing under the name Vegas Diamond a few months ago when I bought nanoloop 1.6, I've used milkytracker and renoise but I was never really pleased with the results.

I try to make non-video game sounding chipmusic, my biggest inspiration is hiphop beats and I try to emulate that kind of feel.
