Nyko Worm Light under the covers all night, every night!

Seriously though, backlight for DMG, front light for CGB (unless someone's found a way to backlight them now?).

EDIT: Wow, didn't even see someone beat me with the worm light suggestion. Oh well...

Woah, so hey, I dropped off the face of the Earth. I haven't been doing much art, but I've got a pair that I'm just prepping to add to the first post. Also here's a small tech demo my friend and I worked on for shits and giggles.

Click Me!

EDIT: I want to add that you can find more of Overkill's demo stuff on his YouTube page, for example...

Alright, so this isn't really "art" per se, but my friend and I are finally getting back into working on our GameBoy stuff, we're starting with getting raster backgrounds similar to the ones used in Earthbound and Mother 3. Here's a quick test my friend did using a dummy bg I made.

The final version is going to look something like this (with raster effects of course);

EDIT: I went ahead and updated the first post with some new pieces as well!

@Pixelgent: Sorry, don't really know myself, as I don't do any of the programming. A good friend of mine is actually the one doing all the assembly stuff for this, so all I can say is, "Learn assembly". I might be able to get him to throw some mocks onto a rom for you, but it would probably be more time consuming than you'd like.

EDIT: Bah, somehow posted instead of doing a page break.

Wow, long time no post. I just posted a few new pieces around online so I thought I'd update it here too.

@SketchMan3: Not that it matters now, but yes, it's Jake from Adventure Time. Based off a gesture he does while saying, "I came back... For the music."

Wonderful, then I'm at ease. Thanks a lot, Kitsch!

I tried to order a pair, hopefully they went through alright.

EDIT: I guess they're not in 'sold out' status yet, so I'm good.

I'd recommend looking into the carts yourself and deciding based on what you're looking for specifically, and how much you're willing to pay. nitro2k01 made a nifty post about the pros and cons of various usb cartridges a few posts down over here;
http://chipmusic.org/forums/topic/1277/ … o-request/

There's also Drag'n'Derp cartridges, which a lot of people are looking forward to, due to it's on board memory (no battery) but they're hard to come by at the moment and are fairly pricey. You can see more info from the creator here;
http://chipmusic.org/forums/topic/4170/ … boy-carts/

I personally use a BleepBloop because I'd heard the EMS carts are fairly unreliable (as a whole). I haven't had any issues with the cart or the drivers yet, after about a year and a half of use.

EDIT: Of course though, try to fix your EMS cart with what everyone else had mentioned first, best of luck on that end.

So I was planning to post some more stuff here, but I haven't gotten an opportunity to gather up any more old pieces yet, maybe later today, who knows. I also want to get better pictures of the homebrew stuff but god damn if Game Boys aren't hard to photograph properly. It's worth mentioning that the guitar player is supposed to be disasterpiece but with the minimal amount of space for the sprite, and never actually seeing the guy (just going off pictures I got), I did what I could. The giveaway was supposed to be his purple hoodie and red guitar but I guess I failed!

Thanks again for the love, it's unfortunate that the piece everyone seems to like is the piece I don't really care much for in my collection, but then again, I'm really all about lower resolution stuff. Maybe I've got my priorities mixed up, hahaha.

EDIT: Derp, sorry ui, I almost forgot about you. I'd prefer to keep my work in a thread of it's own, but thanks for the heads up. I checked around the drop box art thread when I first got here, actually. By the way, big fan of your art, it's rare that I care for anything that isn't made-for-game pixel art, but your stuff was really something.

Same response someone else gave in the last thread, but a flash cart. Specifically so you can play Mother 3 and Boktai 3, in English. Boktai 1 and 2 were going to be my main recommendations otherwise. They're incredibly overlooked Kojima titles that need more love (kind of like Zone of the Enders). I'd say those two, mixed with some other games people have mentioned (Astro Boy, Advance Wars 2, Metroid and Vania) make up probably the best GBA games.

If you aren't willing to do a flash cart, then I still recommend both Mother 3 and Boktai 3 if you're up for using online translations, these games really should not be overlooked.

I'm going to go ahead and say this, although it may not apply to your project. If your video is going to use graphics based around 8bit restrictions and inducing nostalgia, make sure the artist knows what those restrictions are. As a fellow artist working with this kind of stuff, nothing annoys me more than the current trend of labeling art that's clearly beyond the restrictions as '8bit'.

Gonna be interesting seeing where this project goes though, there's quite a few talented musicians here. Good luck!

Thanks for the love, guys. I've updated the original post with more stuff!

The guitarist was actually made as a commission for a game that was being developed, but I unfortunately couldn't keep up with the workload and left the project.

Hey there! Firstly, thanks for taking the time to stop by and check out my work. I know there's not a lot (yet), but I'll be slowly updating this page as time goes on. A little bit about my style, I like to stick to low resolution pieces usually, specifically under Game Boy Color restrictions, but from time to time, I'll do the odd higher res stuff, usually only going to about Game Boy Advance level. My style stems from an inspiration of other artists who have used incredible pixel cluster techniques in the past, such as Brownie Brown and their work on "Mother 3", "Professor Layton" (London Life Mini-Game), and early versions of Level-5's "Fantasy Life". Another massive inspiration came from the artists who worked on Konami's "Boktai" series and prior to that, their "Metal Gear Solid - Ghost Babel" for the Game Boy Color.

In my spare time, I've teamed up with a programmer turned good friend who works on Game Boy Color homebrew with me (some pics will be included down below). While we haven't released anything publicly yet, stay tuned for some info in the near future about projects we're working on!

And finally, some crappy stills of two Game Boy Color homebrews I had worked on in the past;

This is pretty funky! I'd be interested in hearing if it works as well with colours (when dyeing, would there be saturation loss since the original buttons are black/gray)? In any case, congrats, the "Piano Black" buttons turned out beautifully!

Gonna try this out asap, it looks pretty nifty. With that said, I have the utmost respect for anyone with the gall to even touch asm, so my hat's off to you.

I still hate batteries though.

Ugh, I can't agree with this enough. I keep hoping to see someone magically find a way to mod the battery pack of a CGB into something that works with a lithium ion rechargeable battery (one out of the DS for example). Unfortunately, it seems like that's never going to happen (or just simply not possible), so a lot of us are stuck with rechargeable AA's like Treble said.
