To combat clicking and sudden changes when trying to loop a short chord sample for a pad sound I'll just try to find a beginning loop point that is similar to the ending point. Other times I'll set good loop points and play back the sample in ping pong mode.

Other times I'll just make the sample really long, especially if the project I'm using it for is already in progress.

And for your last question, it definitely depends on what you are using smile

Sometimes I'll open Reason or some vst, find a sound I like that will be polyphonic, then just export a variety of chords, which I then use in LGPT. Of course I'll sample all kinds of other stuff, I just like the chord thing for trackers because it just seems less confusing and probably sounds better than using more than just one channel.

Sampling from songs is pretty rare for me, but when I do, I pretty much just look for instruments that I like, then try to find a place in the song at least mostly everything else is silent. I'll eq out what I can, but I don't really know how so it's a big experiment.

Anyone here play around with the mlr or mlrV MAX5 patches? I'm getting a little better with it but it's too fun and addictive to make a song with...

@Cartoon Bomb - Chrono Trigger samples. AWESOME. EDIT: You've got a trumpet labeled as "Guitar" in there. smile

Yeah I was doing it kinda fast. I also noticed that there's a file with kick in the name but it's not a kick at all hahaha.

Can't make it!  Sucks 'cause I want to but it's just madness around here and I have no time.  Any chance that SNES compo you (bleo) were talking about might happen?

What I've gleaned from reading this thread is that people who like LSDJ seem to like LGPT, and we don't feel like moving out of our comfort zone.  It's not as though there is some assumed progression that goes like this: beginners use LSDJ as "training wheels", then move on to trackers.  It's just not the case.

This indicates that it has nothing to do with samples/having a sample library and everything to do with the interface.

I play piano...why don't I play flute?  I don't hate the flute, I love the sound it makes, and if I didn't love the sound, I would at least respect the player. - I guess that's similar to what boomlinde was saying about squash, meh.

The assumption by Huesudo that we would make modules if our "idols" (who is that?) made them is ridiculous.  I'm inclined to agree with him on the point of playing live as opposed to DJing, but I have to say that I think there is a grey area.  What is dub?  It's pretty live, yet it involves many elements of a DJ set.

"Scattered" -- compared to an editor where you have to switch back and forth between screens to change column? smile

Very fair point.  I guess it's a visual thing for me, I'd like to look only at the column that I'm working on.  ps you are one of my favs.

My two cents, considering I am one of those newbs from the last few years:

I don't make .mod/xm because I suck at it, simple as that.  Compared to LGPT/LSDJ, the pc trackers just seem clunky and scattered, it's too much for by spongey brain.

Kind of like what ant1 was saying, if I discovered trackers first, I would not necessarily have made my way to these forums.  To come to think of it, I probably would have been like "wtf is this?" and turned back.

For some reason or another, I associate a certain style with tracker music (...Joule perhaps), though I am well aware of the wide variability.  I feel that some of the best composers use pc sample trackers, but it almost never has the sound I'm looking for.

LSDJ is super streamlined and easy to understand, it takes like 10 minutes to learn.  Jumping to piggy tracker is just as easy, and it has some very distinctive sounds that you won't likely hear anywhere else.  Pretty much every command is self-explanatory (not hex digits), and I really like song->chain->phrase->table setup.

if the dudes dont have the vinyl they were promised, its still an issue. and that issue comes up because its a matter of 'do people buy that vinyl'.

Well, if anyone wants to buy it, they can buy it from the guys who made the music.  All of us have 5 copies.  Basically it's a dead issue.  The distro guy is unwilling to hook us up with the people who printed the vinyls (requesting the plates like someone was saying).  It already out there, some guy just commented on my facebook saying he bought it in a local shop.  I do wonder how possible it would be get get all of the copies (even the ones in the online shops...what would they do if it was taken down, send them back to the distro?).  If it proved itself to be remotely mutually beneficial, cool, of not, fuck it.

TraceKaiser arranged the comp, he seems satisfied and so does everyone else.  I'm placated enough to stop caring I think too.  The whole thing agitates me but it's really just one song that I made a long time ago that I don't really care about, so it's really just the principle of the matter.

edit: and I think the edits were necessary, it was an eyesore.  Everyone knows what's happened.  I can go re edit them and recreate the drama as best as I can but that would be dumb.

ugggg we're not assholes and some of us aren't entirely happy with it but whatever we got something for show and tell out of it.  It's nice to know that notifying the shop is still an option.  Also, they just killed Osama Bin Laden.

EDIT (sick of bumping):  You are all correct.  TraceKaiser, Facundo, and RG.  It happened, we deal with it the best we can.  I should have just continued in my apathy instead of drinking a bunch and being like, "nah ah no they didn't!".  I guess the distro isn't the culprit.  They told me that they do indeed have records pressed, but that they got this from a "label".
