or buy it direct from them!

This will be possible very soon.  I just got twenty copies, I'm waiting to hear from everyone else/total up how many we actually got and distribute them evenly from there.  If I have 5 personal copies, I'll sell three or four to whomever is interested, and I'm sure everyone else will too.

fw blackburn at gmail dot com if you are interested...

Oh yeah, what's a fair price for this?

I never used the win32 build in Vista, but I've used it extensively in XP and 7 and never really had any audio issues. I DID have a weird redraw issue in win7 and marc did a special build to fix it for me here:

!!!!! Thank you (and marc) for this link, it solved my months long problem.  I've gotten piggy to run on every comp BUT my own (windows 7).

When I feel like making chipmusic, I do it because it's easier for me.  There's less for me to think about, and it's fun to squeeze out as much polyphony as you can, or to try and focus on a simple melody.  I never understand the "channel/sonic limitations make me more elite" mentality, or the "'fakebit' is for noobs" thing.

And then you have the obsession with pooping out a song in one hour. If you can do that well, then more power to you, 'cause I sure can't.

Also, what microB said.  I don't know how happy EvilWezil's music is though...it's sorta happy in a "we are all going to die one day" kind of way.

One night to get the idea out there, then however long I want to refine it.  sometimes I skip the refinement step though.

I've recieved some pretty funny comments.  "That vidya game crap", etc..    In my town, you are either a "DJ", or you are in some crappy hard rock band, a bar band (covers), or folk/bluegrass band.  Mostly it has to do with electronic music in general, which people say is not "real".  I usually see this kind of mentality in mindless Maynard fans who think Tool is the only real band to have ever existed.  I also see this from folk/bluegrass musicians (HAHAHA) who look down on anything written later than the 50s.  Jamband lovin' hippies are soetimes guilty too, even though they might love dubstep.  Nothing against Tool, folk music, or jambands but ug...the fans.

Anyway, I can't blame people for not immediately acknowledging the awesomeness of chip.  Most ordinary people don't actually give a shit about music, period.  They're just not that interested, and they don't define their entire personality by what music they listen to.  They're perfectly happy passively listening to the radio while they...work, have fun, get laid, and drink light lager.

They remember the chip sounds from the old video games.  Chip music is usually made with old video game consoles.  Video game.  Pixel art.  "8-bit".  Crappy hardcore LSDJ.  happy hardcore was played at raves.  Mario is in video games.  Mario rave.  Can you really blame them?

What if voting was only open to participants, then you would have time, and you wouldn't have to worry about vote begging .  That would make it even more like botb though hahah.

non-participants can vote at botb!

!?!?!? wow I had no idea.  I only participated in Winter Chip V, and for some reason I thought only participants voted.  I miss things like that I guess.

What if voting was only open to participants, then you would have time, and you wouldn't have to worry about vote begging .  That would make it even more like botb though hahah.

voting could look like the buyer feedback thread (+1 Arlen/song title), or, you could even have points to distribute.  Like you said, themes might be the way to make it the most inclusive.

I just love those sample pack compos, you end up with a theme just because the samples tend to suggest a certain sound to the artist.

Just brainstorming though...

hehehe voting could be blind though...songs are uploaded to another website with no indication of the artist, or a special account here could be made for these anonymous submissions.  Personally, I don't think it's necessary, but it could add to the fun.

Well it could be more like a compo or whatever.  A sample pack is released and we all make songs with it.  Stipulations, genre limitations, hardware specifications, etc.  I wouldn't want it to turn into 8bc compilations though...more like botb or a hexawe compo, only you have a week instead of one hour.

LOL!

Tool fundies always ruin a good conversation about music.
