I was laughing because how are those genres not mashable not because I didn't believe it was possible,

I can see people believing (foolishly) that noise and hip hop could not be mashed but as for the other two lol they are basically the same genres

Don't worry mate, I didn't take offence, lol. When I've played these bands around non-music-geek friends and family, they normally go "huh? wtf is this mess? X and Y don't mix!". I think ANYTHING can be made to work if everybody involved agrees on the general direction of the sound.

And yes, sometimes it's better to just do it yourself, especially if finding musicians is gonna be a lot of effort. I loved being in bands, but generally I don't like depending on people, so I prefer just doing everything myself.

It's not difficult to mesh genres, in fact my favorite bands/groups/artists mix seemingly unmixable genres (noise/hiphop, swingjazz/boombap, black metal/sludge). But, everybody has to have a general idea, and agree on the overall sound of the band. I personally don't like working with drummers (sorry if I offend anybody, I've had mostly negative experiences), so yeah, I think it's a good idea to practice with software IF it is synced to your LSDJ.

Get a drummer that actually shows up to practice, and ditch the LSDJ drums. As far as "maximizing productivity" within a band, make sure everybody is on the same page as far as sound and general influences are concerned. I went to a band practice once where the guitarist was into IronMaiden-esque harmonies, the drummer was into MASSIVE double-bass death metal, the bass player blues/punk, and the vocalist into nu-metal. If one bandmember doesn't "fit in" with what everybody else is doing, be honest and tell them, then write/play without that instrument until you find somebody else. Also, practice at least every second week as a whole band, or you'll be wasting your time.

Here's a tip: Go into the S channel, and just go insane in the wave editor (try to get your wave form to have a lot of extreme changes in spikes and low points if that makes sense). Then set the notes to a low octave, and add some pitch bend effects if you want. You can get some "growling" noises doing that (or some crazy static/percussive noises if you use pitch bend right).

I fucked around with this a bit, and it yielded some VERY usable results! It seems like I will rely HEAVILY on the S channel for my compositions. Thanks for the advice. Does everybody use straight-forward pulse kicks and noise hats/snares in nanoloop, or is there something that I'm not seeing as far as drum sounds go?

So, a thing that blew my mind is that ALL of dropping a deuce by shitbird is nanoloop.

I have <3ed this album since it's release! Seriously, is all of it ONLY nanoloop? Jesus, that's incredible!!! Does anybody have any hints as to how to do all of that?

After finding out recently that nanoloop one CAN actually be used with the GBA SP, I dug up my cart (version 1.6.3), shoved it in my SP, wiggled it around a bit, and presto, IT FUCKING WORKED! Now I want to get something out of it. However, nanoloop is not nearly as well documented as LSDJ, and I don't really know what the hell I'm doing. Can anybody PLEASE give me some pointers as to how to create some sounds generally associated with heavy music? Guitar-type sounds, growls, and drum tips would be great. Also, if anybody knows of any nanoloop chipthrash, noise or death/black metal albums, please share them here.

Thank you.

Aviel's releases are always tight! I think this release establishes your position as a LGPT deity! Love it.

You wont be able to do it without a flashcart, sorry. I wouldn't even bother with LSDJ as it doesn't sound too hot when emulated. There are some more interesting/better music making apps for the 3DS already. You can get them through the iStore thing. Check out Rhythm Core Alpha 2 and the 2 current Korg products.
