you should post this info in this thread:  http://chipmusic.org/forums/topic/8788/ … e-another/

its the same topic, so imma close this one, but please post this info over there because people do use that thread.

thanks!

congratulations!  i've always found it particularly interesting how people utilize the same tool in so many different ways, since you created it i bet its very exciting to see what someone whom you've admired does with your project.

streets of rage composer for anyone who missed that part.

tell them you like what they are doing, be appreciative towards them.  too many people only put forward the effort when they are feeling negative towards something, somehow this negativity is more motivating.  and (awesomely) most everyone in this scene is very accessible and responsive.

buy their stuff

go to shows if you're able (online/real life dichotomy breakdown!)

learn something new, and then share/teach this to other people when you can, and you'll end up being a student for a second time.  become an ambassador and you'll continue to grow in the matter.  i'm ripping off someone's quote i think i read on a bumper sticker, but whatever.

reach out to them about their technique!  most people would love to share.  the 'how' of chipmusic is really as novel a thing as the music that's being made from the how.  the 'post your home/gig setup' thread on this site is a great example to illustrate the creativity of some people before they even make a noise

it seems like people are wanting more online interaction re: constructive criticism.  maybe jump in on that boat?

this community doesn't really orbit around a central hard-edged identity, its a very fuzzy-edged group i think.  which sometimes means there is some general dispute over exactly what 'is' is, sure, but its also great ground for bringing in new ideas and working new concepts into whatever it is you're doing.  i think the best way any of us could help out this community is simply to bring our strong points/skills into whatever it is we're doing either in the purist center of the group or off in the fuzzy edges, or wherever you fall in between.  you'll also find that you might be able to interact with the community in a way which will allow you to train yourself up on the skills you already possess.  symbiotic relationship.  i bet there is a name for this in group-systems and networks studies lit somewhere

if you happen to order from us (kitsch-bent) in the future, drop me an email at the same time and remind me of this because i have extra nuts which should fit this part, i'll just drop one in the package for ya

although, i wonder if the threading is different on UK and US versions of this part?  i'm not sure if its the UK or the US which is the oddball compared to basically the rest of the world, but seems like it might be the UK which uses a different threading standard?  or, am I just getting this from car parts and the movie steamboy?  i just realized the kid had this problem in that movie...

since there is a bit of a dmg-recharging vibe going on like this awesome project, wanted to share something thats wrapping up on the workbench!  cables are done (as you can see below), and the circuit prototype is done but i'm changing the LED/footprint so its *basically* done.  i forgot to take a picture of the LED part before i shut down for the night, but it mounts in the exact same way as batt_dmg except there is more than one color light.  in fact, this is going to be batt_dmg_v2!

but first, we've got luftek adapters on the way!  and after checking with luftek they'll be totally compatible with the recharge circuit.

here

these cables are a loomis-instigated undertaking, big ups to him on that front.  planning on three lengths at first, with a longer 'on-stage' version available later

oh man, this is really awesome!  i'll post a pic of something similar i've been doing and share when i get to a regular comp, i like your approach though.  the thinner battery pack sure does save a lot of room...  (i'll post it in my own thread so i dont derail yours, this is a great doing you've done)

so, now that you've done this, how is it performing?  and dos/donts to share?

there is a little pad that sits right under this for some pressure, but it looks like its under there.  if not, egr found your problem probably!

try cleaning the contact pads for the EL panel too.  if the button contacts in this unit were so dirty they didn't work right, most likely some of that gunk got into this area too.  clean both the EL contacts and the ones on the PCB, because if you leave one dirty and clean only one you'll just transfer dirt to your clean surface.  like how when people put new edge connectors in a NES then ruin them by inserting terribly dirty and gunked up NES carts.

if the leads in the EL panel just came loose from the membrane which illuminates, you'll probably get some flickering instead of it staying off (and you can generally 'fix' this with some pressure to encourage them to sit on the membrane again).  if its just an outright dead panel, i'd say its a contact issue or else the leads in the EL panel were severed somehow.  which shouldn't happen unless you were pretty rough with it, its a good quality part.

well anything could be the problem i guess.  like cleaning liquids into the EL circuitry which shorted something out, etc...  its probably with the EL panel though, they can be a little finicky sometimes.

when you turn the switch to have the light come on, does the console have any high pitched electric whine sound added?  you can hear the EL circuitry in a light from the outside if you know what to listen for.

manufacturing new screens...  and the wait isn't as long as you'd think!

i was pretty premature before in saying they'd be done soon though, i didn't realize it then but i get a little excited about things and overlook how long it takes time to pass.  but, now, really.  soon.  samples will be red, green, blue and white.

actually, the LCD tech stuff is completed, the holdup is over <0.5mm in the plastic guard holding it into place (i'm adopting the same mounting mechanism as nintendo basically).  its funny how things work like that...

welcome, and thanks so much for posting its really great seeing what people come up with!  and congrats on the great looking/clean mod, i'm not alone in saying nice job on backlighting the LCD on the first attempt without screwing it up!

its ABS plastic, the same material the original cases are made from.  although the surface finish is a finer matte than the originals.  holds paint fine

(someone that paints more than me can comments more thoroughly on that part though)
