This is so ridiculous that I'm starting to think we were being trolled this whole time...

This part had me so floored I couldn't even come up with a response.

A tracker that goes sideways, because vertical is so annoying (and really inefficient on my widescreen computer).

Maybe this will actually get people to listen to music on this site!

Guys, we already know that everything on MAKE Magazine is poorly made, ugly looking junk.

I don't think it makes her an idiot if she hates electronic music, it just makes her someone who doesn't like the same music as people who like electronic music. Music is rather subjective and there's plenty of reasons why someone might dislike a Nintendo playing back a series of bleeps and bloops with no human input.

She's not an idiot because she doesn't like electronic music. She's an idiot because she can't write proper English even though it's apparently her job to do so.

"playing a music what they call 'chiptune'" I stopped respecting the writer after this sentence. This may as well be someone's blog. Nothing to see here folks, move on.

Last I understood in this thread, the OP asked about what he should download from the 8bitpeoples catalogue.
If this is random, maybe I can recommend you to download some quality porn.

recommend a punch yourself in the face.

This article makes it sound like some dumbass packaged the idea of binaural beats with HIP COOL DRUG-RELATED NAMES to sell it to impressionable youth, and when the parents found out, they over-reacted.

It's not an overreaction. If impressionable youth are trying to experience the effects of crack, lsd, or some other drug, even in some synthetic form, then that shows that they have a desire to do drugs, and there's a chance they might try the real thing when they don't get what they are looking for with alternatives. It's a good reason to be alarmed and I don't see why everyone is laughing at the parents for worrying about their kids. It's not like they know about these things.

Nevermind...

Sure are a lot of armchair neuroscientists in here =P

Though I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of seedy "musicians" are just using this scheme to peddle their awful "music." What a way to make money as an independent artist... convince people your music will get them high.

Weird litte toy. I'm not too much of a fan of completely random bent noise, but could be interesting if the circuit could be modifed to quantize to selectable notes + beat clock.

Yeah sure, but it's way easier to just record a lot of noise, and then sample it to death to get stuff that fits into the BPM you want.

Yeah uh, you're just gonna have to download everything. They're all good. Two of the first ones I downloaded were Fresh Off The Chip by David Sugar (8BP060) and Power Supply by Anamanaguchi (8BP065), so those are the most memorable for me, but again, they're all good.

If you want recommendations outside of 8bp, I'd have to say MMX by Forest World, and outside of chip, Computer Malfunction by Kamei.
