stop talking everyone, i can't write music amidst all this chatter.

i'll bite, sometime.

+1 on the emailing artists you like...fan emails make you feel ok for a day or two

i want to add, i guess it varies from artist to artist but i personally get uncomfortable with emails that are completely overly gushing and slightly rapey, like "OMG your my hero all your songs are my ringtone and i'm going to fly to your city to watch you pick up the newspaper from your porch".  (or something like that.)  i totally get the appreciation and i'm thankful for it but something irks me about such consumption-oriented one-way conversations.

anyway my point is, as a musician i appreciate it on a MUCH higher tier whenever fans have something more to say than to just say nice things about my music.  it could be any combination of:
- some musical or technical insight they have
- pointing me to some more awesome music that my work reminds them of
- a story about how my work has impacted them

one of the reasons i write music at all is to connect with other people in some profound way, and i like it better when my interactions with others reflects that ideal.  so, those are some suggestions i'd offer in terms of interacting with artists.

i work at a marketing firm using my programming skills to make internet things for other companies.

then to pay the bills i
1) visit my bank internet website
2) click one field that has the money that came from my company
3) click another button that puts some of that money into a payment for other things that need my money

you can find more information on how to pay your bills at your local bank's website.

my dad is all total hardcore about Atari ST jamz being the only true chipmusic out there, released a bunch of tracks on micromusic.net before focusing more on visuals

my mom got bored of tracking in LSDJ after she played at blip fest 07, does mostly VGMMaker psytrance now

I'm looking at this:

Super cheap, got all the inputs I need.
The USB out should let me record each channel separately into my DAW right? Can anyone clarify on that?

Can anyone comment on this one?

i can't really answer your questions, but that mixer actually looks really interesting!  it's a relatively new mixer in the xenyx line?

my current live setup involves a XENYX 1202FX + a breakout audio interface + laptop for effects, but i'd like to streamline that setup as much as possible, by having a smaller mixer with less inputs, and by taking the audio interface out of the equation.   this might be right up my alley (assuming it actually sounds good enough).

Help Growing The Chiptune Community (The Thread Lives On)

just a tip, using the Google Spreadsheets API and some additional forethought you'll be able to access the data in the spreadsheet to do some interesting things.

i always thought it would be useful to have some kind of decentralized chip artists registry that's not tied to a specific site's database...

your honesty and transparency is appreciated, i think it's great that you're discovering this whole new frontier of music.   that said, yes, do acquaint yourself more with the amazing variety of chipmusic that's out there.

- www.chiptuneswin.com has collections of music that provide a pretty good cross-section of the current chip scene at large.
- www.8bitpeoples.com has darker and more dance-oriented stuff, and is widely considered by many to be THE chiptune netlabel, due to its history and its stellar lineup of artists.
- www.ubiktune.org gives you a glimpse at the "bleeding edge" of chipmusic in my opinion.
- tons more that i could list, but that's a good place to start.  just follow the various link trails.

one suggestion, though: try not to position yourself as a some kind of chief purveyor of chipmusic, but instead, simply as an enthusiast.  the chip scene in general is 1) really sensitive to the risk of being misrepresented, and 2) doesn't appreciate being exploited cheaply for things like Facebook Likes.

By the same token, we totally dig it when enthusiasts take the effort to dig deeper into its culture and history.  So let it sink in a little longer and expose yourself to more of it, then you'll better understand the responses in this thread.

bumping this thread because i saw a pretty rad javascript MOD player recently, it uses the HTML 5 Web Audio API for output:

http://mod.haxor.fi

currently works only on a smaller subset of modern browsers.  nice collection of classics though!

oh also

LOL something tells me you have this list of artists memorized alphabetically. smile

that and it's pretty much a rundown of pretty much all the artists that showed up in the mega chip packs that i used to download off of chiptune.com ages ago!  goodtimez.

Between this, all the crazy shit Morgan does in San Francisco and the Frequency chipmusic festival I co-host here in Los Angeles, shit is pickin' up on the West Coast! Good luck to you dudes, that is a sick line up.

East Coast vs. West Coast:  not just for rappers anymore

that reminds me, i've gotta carve out a nice chunk of time to party hardy with you guys down there in the near future.  i think the only question mark in my head is how to get around easily, i've heard (and experienced to a small degree during previous visits) of the sprawl down in LA.  (SF isn't too bad at all though)

i'm in.   come out to this one guys, westcoast needs more love!
